If we qualify for Europe

West Ham won the Conference League, what an incredible moment that must have been for their fans, probably the best they'll see. We've finished in the top 10 three times in living memory and we have people looking down on European football.
Up until the last play offs, the league one play off wins were one of my favourite times being a Sunderland supporter. I’ve been going since 92. It didn’t matter if it was in a third tier competition, it was success relative to where we were as a club at the time.

I wouldn’t care if we played 10-15 matches against teams I’d never heard of, winning matches in any European competition would be amazing.

Mental that some people think qualifying for a European competition for the first time in many of our lifetimes wouldn’t be a positive thing.

And only 6 points off Chelsea, that’s two wins !
With them to play in the last game. We’d need to get within two points of them in the next six matches, but the last match of the season could turn out to be a bit of a cup final for us. If we were able to get close to Chelsea you’d imagine we’ve done enough ti qualify for a European competition

It’s still possible at this point, which is the main thing, put a good run together and who knows maybe Europea league next season, at worst conference league.

There's been countless threads over the last few months saying that being in Europe would be a disaster. It's embarrassing.

Our European record for a club our size is embarrassing. Even Fulham and Boro have been to finals. European football should be embraced. If we get it and newcastle don't they'd hate it and it'd be worth it just for that. Plus we'd build the squad in the summer to cope.

Thats gonna change

One thing we've learnt bout this board is that they are ruthless with such decision making. In the summer they could have got just 5 or 6 players in and let the lads who got us up be the ones for the season mostly. Instead they brought in 14. I have no doubt that if we did find ourselves in Europe, they'd expand the squad depth even more. Suadi Arabia United FC have struggled with fighting on various fronts because they brought in a couple of players only and not considered the depth of squad for such a challenge; we're much better run for things like this.

To be fair to them, I think they didn’t try to sign multiple players & everyone kept turning them down, which was hilarious.

The difference between the last window was we signed players first half decent money, but it seemed with a thought process. Reinildo was second choice at Athletico, but had four years of La Liga & European experience. Mukiele, not in the PSG side, but IMO, is champions league standard. Alderete, getafe needed to sell. Brobby was due a new challenge elsewhere.

We got all those players for a fraction of the price of Woltermade, Wissa, Ramsey & Elanga because we spot something that wasn’t on a video or on the pitch.

There policy seemed to be buying players that had done decent but for champions league fees. It just didn’t work.

Just because we qualify for Europe doesn't mean we have to prioritise it but it does make it more likely that we can keep a hold of our players and sign better quality replacements for those that we lose.
Also no one knows when the opportunity could come again so the idea that we can pick and choose when we want it is just a little bit silly.

What’s the lowest league position to get into Europe 9th?
