If Villa win the Europa League

The ruling is..... The PL has been allotted 1x CL place outside of the top 4 due to the performance of PL teams in the CL competition (therefore 5th place). If Villa finish out of top 4 but inside the top 5 and win the Europa League then the 5th place spot would defer to a 6th place.

Europa League would therefore defer to 7 + 8th Place

Conference League would therefore defer to 9th Place respectively.

That missed sitter by Diarra at Villa, shocking team performance against Forest and the Ballard red card at Wolves really have cost us the 2 points that would have put us in 9th place - while its been a tremendous season it would have been easier to accept if these were spread over the course of the season, not the last 3 games consecutively. (Diarra slotting and a win last weekend would have put us 6th - 3 points off 5th - crazy really)

This isn’t the case. If Villa finish 5th and win the Europa league we still only get 8 places in the league in Europe, but it would mean 6 CL spots and only 1 Europa and conference league spot.

As we’re effectively 4 points off 8th given our poorer GD it’s a very long shot for us to catch that up and overhaul so many teams. It’s been a brilliant season but the last 3 games in particular have ended our realistic chances of getting the passports out next season.

Algorithms set the opening prices. Market money dictates from there.

They need to finish exactly 5th i think. I heard someone describing a perverse scenario where they might be incentivised not to win their last game of the season. Can't remember the details or where I heard it.

I know, how helpful and informed am I?

Edit: its come back to me. If they win the Europa and finish exactly 5th 6th place could get champions league.

Its Brighton and Brentford who may want to lose so that Villa stay 5th (more so Brentford as they play Liverpool). Only if they are certain of 6th before the game though so very unlikely.

Also needs Man City to win the cup or Chelsea top 7.

Villa only need top 5 or win the EL
