ID checks for away tickets

You’ve lost the plot. Completely lost it.
I am on the side of fans and defending their right to pass on the odd ticket to friends/ family when they can’t make the odd game.

You are arguing for keeping the rules as they are which ban this behaviour.

I know who I think has lost the plot and it’s not me.

This is flawed thinking in the same way people thought they should get a point for Wembley. There is no advantage in getting a point for home games or Wembley when every other season ticket holder gets the point as well and nobody moves up or down the list. Its pardon the pun 'pointless'.
I was just thinking in terms of rewarding ST loyalty over a longer period. If the points lasted 3 years we’d have a lot of fans who had STs for that period on 60 odd points whereas ST holders who leapt on the PL bandwagon would be on single figures at this stage.

Your point is only valid if all ST holders are only ST holders for the exact same period of time?

When we got to the FA Cup QF a while ago it was expected that should we make the final there wouldn’t be enough tickets for all ST holders and the unofficial feedback from the club was that they’d allocate them by continuous years with a season ticket. My example is just merging that thinking with the current points system. There’s never going to be a system that everyone is happy with, I just think someone who has put money into the club over a long period deserves some sort of recognition.

And with respect, your point is only valid if we had started this last season or in league One. We didn't though.

If we start it now all the band waggon jumpers who took the extra season tickets after Watson scored are on the same pts as those who stuck with the club and paid for cards during covid and in league One.

At least we have a 3 year (?) cut off for points. I read that the mags points are indefinite so some have built up massive totals so are now just old and miserable as opposed to young and boisterous. Think we saw that first hand in the derby.

I’ve always thought loyalty points should be on a sliding recognition scale. If they made a league away game 3 points, home game 1 point and cup games 2 points, it would reward ST holders loyalty and they’d start the next season with 19 points even if they didn’t go away. Obviously this would push all the thresholds up. By the third season they’d have 57 points - I’d say someone who has 3 years of continuous ST deserves some sort of loyalty recognition rather than being stuck on 0 just because they don’t regularly go away. Doesn’t solve the problem of sharing numbers but I’ve always thought the 1 point per away game system was too simplistic.
But they wouldn't be any closer to the high points holder than they are now, and they'd have no more chance of getting a ticket than they have now

No one is doing that tho. Show me who is selling their tickets for huge profits.
Loads have been
These threads are shit. Polarising fans views and getting people wound up ...when those at the club with any influence over the issue won't take any notice. Clearly the club recognise its a problem and are already trying to weed out the malpractice and....over time....enable a fairer system for people to build points based on recent committment as well as recognising lo ger terms committment. Can only be a good thing for anyone with decent and fair intentions.

Im old enough to remember the disaster the 19pt season had on the branches mate and we need to be careful.

A lot of branches went from running 2-3 coaches to away games, to not being able to fill a coach as demand fell off a cliff.

In just over a week, the club will be desperate for the branches to help get people to the SOL for City. In fact I know that at least two branches are running multiple coaches for the match (just like they did for Sheff Utd).

On a standard match day, a number of volunteers help run buses to get fans to the SOL from all over the north east. It’s frankly a thankless task that I personally wouldn’t even consider doing.

From my own experience, I’d also say at least 90% of a branch bus is made up of regulars. In fact, a lot of branches are wary of opening up bookings to everyone as that often creates its own issues.

If some tickets do make their way to members that perhaps don’t quite have the loyalty points, then frankly its a small price to pay for the service their offer to our fanbase.
Fair points well made. I've been an exile for 40 years and probably don't fully appreciate the importance of Branches but its the extent to which the system that may be abused that gets me. I agree a couple of tickets being passed on is neither here nor there but the previous message quoted 10 out of 40 which makes me feel for the guys who miss out by not being able to get a ticket. To be honest if I was the Club (and i said this ages ago on a different thread) I would be having closer relationships with the branches and either subsidising transport costs or using their Corporate leverage with the suppliers to get better deals. in return i'd expect all branches to operate properly

Nope. Afraid not correct. Just cos you've been to a few away games in the past doesn't mean you get to be your mates ticket agent. Buy it, use it, or return it. Random checks the way to go

Option 1 is the way
I've done this twice in the last 6 years, I'm sorry but I don't see where the problem is here.

Ideally there would be a way to do this officially through the club. In both cases the mate in question had the points in the phase where the game sold out. I'd actually prefer it that they got the points.

Spot on, I don’t travel by a branch but know some dedicated fans who run them or go on them, Coventry semi final I had to be at work next day so couldnt stay over with the lads and used a branch for a lift back, one of the members I spoke to said she didn’t have any points despite been to every game for the past however many seasons and just said the organiser sorted her ticket, I thought that was a bit risky for her and I’d have liked to have my own points if it was me, but the point is allot of branches must have ran things this way so it would be harsh to suddenly come down hard on them which would effect loyal fans like this lady

Yeah, been living at this same address for over 30 years. Last speeding was 2012 (ferryboat lane) and was just the naughty boy course at that place next to the BIC off the 1231.

So what happens if you buy a ticket, genuinely can't attend, don't pass your ticket to anyone else, but get selected for an ID checked ticket pick up and obviously don't show up. Any blow-
Impressive. Can’t be many like that.

Haven’t changed address in 25 years and no points in that time!

Still, you’ll be forced into a photo card at 70. 😉
That was my worry, I had not been sent any ID check email so I went to their ticket office to check and the lady I spoke to checked my ticket on my phone on the scanner they had, all was ok, she had no explanation as to why it had been

At Man City my ticket wouldn’t scan, the nfc was on , had to go to the ticket office ( the kiosk was next to the turnstile) and stand in the pissing rain while busting for a pee ( I’m not a young man anymore). Should the lad my e-ticket and he just printed me another off… didn’t ask for any I.d… I didn’t receive any email from the club…..missed the first few minutes of the game
Surely the technology must be their so they can just make it so when they send the ticket to the users phone it can’t be sent on.

Meanwhile, I've just had this email

Dear Supporter,

We hope this email finds you well!

We would like to inform you that a Black Cat Point will not be allocated for the Manchester City fixture, as the ticket was not collected and there was no recorded entry into the stadium.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,

SAFC Ticket Office

Looks like things are ramping up.

Interesting, though realistically are they going to check every the status of every ticket issued for each away match? I doubt it.

That seems totally pointless given almost no one will be buying a ticket just for the point with no one using it. Anyone harvesting points will be selling it on to get the money back

I think the point is, he was flagged for an ID check and didn't collect the paper ticket , therefore no loyalty point - as they think he was selling it on

Anyone not flagged for an ID check would have got the point either way

Maybe, maybe not. If the ticket isn't used at all, the system knows this so easy enough to run the list of such unused tickets and knock the loyalty point off. I couldn't make the Sheffield United home game last season on NYD and I didn't get the point for that game.

I suspect that's from your message to them advising them you weren't able to attend to due to being ill.
