ID checks for away tickets

I’ve never passed a ticket on since I had the shits for Sheff United away about 3 years ago so doesn’t affect me but just curious how the club would police this. Feels a bit iffy if essentially trapping your own fans

Might be mate tbf

Really, if it’s a club thing, they’d advise fans in advance. I know the mags have a consultation with their fans groups before they introduced a new ticketing policy.

For that reason, I think this might be a one off. Sadly, some will get caught out tomorrow

@Upthere reckons this has happened at previous matches this season

What would happen if the person who’s bought the ticket, and sold it on, gets the email and the other person just decides not to go? They’ll still get the loyalty point because it goes off the purchase not the scan of the ticket. Unless the scan of the ticket data does in fact go back to the club and they verify it but I doubt it slightly.
I suspect that the same person will be 'randomly' selected more often in future.

It's the threat of it potentially happening to you that will stop people passing tickets on, rather than the letter itself, why would you take the risk? So word getting out that they're doing this will be a positive from the clubs perspective. But against this is there anyone on this forum who hasn't at some point passed his ticket on because he or she couldn't attend at the last minute for a variety of ligitimate reasons?

I’m not against it to be honest, but is there an easier solution than going to the ticket office? We have our own stewards at away games now, so surely they could wait by the turnstiles to assist and verify the ID etc.?

I also think if the club are going to do this due to high demand for away games, they should have more transparency across the board. How much of each allocation goes to friends/families/staff/corporate or any non regular season ticket holder? How many people are on each point level etc?

The way the Mags work it is, you can pass your details / tickets on for away games 3 times a season. So if you do need too for a legitimate reason, it is fine

I'd reckon at every away game there are 50-100 no shows or tickets passed on for various reasons

I haven't had enough points to get to away matches this season but even I knew that every match in the premier league is subject to ID checks, why are people shocked at this?

At Sunderland AFC, we are committed to involving fans in discussions and conversations.

The Supporters’ Collective ensures fans have a voice and are able to share their views on long-term strategic and shorter-term tactical matters of importance.

That’s taken directly from the club website I’d say that the rolling out of spot id checks is a short term matter of importance, so IF this is the club doing it it would seem they’ve ignored their own consultative commitments which would be poor.

Of course it may not be a club thing at all.

This is 100% correct, if this is going to start coming in, its applicable at all levels, F&F, corporate, and us mere mortals as season ticket holders.
Club need to think about this fully

I honestly think it’s a City thing.
