ID checks for away tickets

The reason why they don't like this is not because of wanting to protect the fans either. Its because it pisses them off that they don't get that additional revenue from the inflated prices. It always comes back to "corporate greed" in that if the market shows there is a demand above supply, then the prices could actually be pushed even higher.

This is the correct reason why it is happening. Its not a Sunderland/ man city / Brighton thing, it's a premier league thing.

But they are going about it the wrong way. They could go to these resale websites, buy a few tickets, identify the account and cancel it.

Random checks of 1-2% at thurnstile in the hope it will put the reseller off is just inconveniencing the real supporters.
 
My Dad goes to every away game. Ticket in his own name. Can barely walk. Barely knows how to use email, certainly isn't checking it regularly.

What's he supposed to do if he gets down to Brighton to find his ticket has been cancelled? Wouldn't be able to check his email to understand what the hell is going on, and wouldn't have any ID with him anyway, as he's never had in nearly 60 years of going to the match.

It definitely is a Brighton thing, that’s not to say it isn’t totally a Sunderland thing now either.

I recall their old owner Dick Knight being refused entry at one of their away games when they first enforced it.

My ST isn't in my name. Took it over from someone else 9 years ago, would the ID checks allow the ST on my phone to be classed as ID? :lol: otherwise I might have to look at some other methods incase I ever get pulled.
 
Brighton have had real problems with ticket scams this season. There was an article on a BBC programme a few weeks ago where a guy had travelled over from Thailand (I think) and had paid £900 for a ticket only to be told at the ticket office it was a fake!

It is surprising, given the lengthy discussions on here around ticket checks, that some people are saying they have travelled without ID today.

I’ve seen commuters stopped for ticket fraud in London where the inspector has been happy for them to open their online banking and show a statement as ID so hopefully this will be ok for those impacted.

Black market resales aren't just about corporate greed, they're about industries not making enough effort to stop touts making huge profits at the expense of ordinary fans.

Nah that wouldn’t work.

You’d probably have to change your name by deed poll. If you get the season ticket put in your own name when it renews you’d get your points wiped
 
Fair enough I know 2 people who haven’t got any loyalty points one of them isn’t even a Sunderland fan who have got tickets from the London branch.

Agree, but like so many these days, you appear to think that “rights” only work one way.

As I’ve said, you absolutely have the right to carry no ID but the club also has the right to refuse you entry.

It would be a pyrrhic victory exercising your rights while locked outside a football ground.
