ID checks for away tickets

People that have an issue with tickets being passed on clearly have nee mates. I have been going to away games since 2005 and its been a thing since then. Mates helping mates, supporters helping supporters, branch leads spending days of their lives sourcing tickets for anyone who wants to go. My first away game was before I even had a season ticket! If I didnt get a ticket from someone else off the branch then my love of following Sunderland away might never have transpired. There'll be hundreds of kids in the same position. Whats the issue like?

Unfortunately the world is full of grasses now so here we are. Folk with nee mates whinging about who gets tickets now we are good. Same losers weren't interested in filling away ends on a Tuesday night at Rochdale or Bristol Rovers. Shame on the club for bowing down to this nonsense tbh.

Whilst there are some genuine supporters who can’t get tickets due to fans passing numbers on, I have to agree with what you’ve said there really. It’s really difficult to argue with. The idea of some young lad or lass not getting lucky one day with a ticket to an away game that’ll make their year / get them into it for life isn’t a good one. I know I’ve benefitted from a passed on ticket plenty of times over the years and it is a shame to see how policed it’s becoming now.

Bang on mate.

Agree, had loads of help from lads on here in the earlier days of regularly going away and in more recent times for the odd occasion my lad didn’t meet the criteria. If it wasn’t for this help, it might not of became our hobby week in week out. We built points over the 4 year periods (that’s how long it takes you muppets) and now sit nice, none of this lot were moaning for tickets over the last 8 seasons. Tickets are going exactly where they deserve this year. People will get their chance to get points and attend games, but it will take you 4 years. Harder this year because of the buzz of promotion but shut your mouths, wait in line and you’ll get your chance, just like we all did once

I agree overall, and most of us have benefited from the occasional passed on ticket and have occasionally passed them on ourselves, so I'm not taking the moral high ground here, far from it, but you can't really argue in the same breath that it's ok to pass on tickets and also that tickets are going exactly where they deserve, because any time we help out a mate with a ticket or get one passed to us we are bending the system to our benefit and denying someone in the final points bracket a ticket who does qualify but is denied due to availability.

If they ever have a system ensuring full ID matches at games then it will put a stop to it obviously. In those circumstances, it might allow some tweaks to improve fairness, eg you can allocate an away ticket to someone else but don't get a point for it. That way you could still help out a mate occasionally but not top up your points unfairly.

The current system is probably as good as it can be, but it's hardly fair objectively that some of us have the power to buy a ticket, pass it on, and harvest a point without leaving our armchair.

Yeah, only people like you have 'mates'.....

You come across like the sad buggers who claim they never went to University but they went to the 'University of Life' as if people who actually went to University never experienced any 'Life' while they were there.

Couldn’t agree more. Those of us who were there throughout the bad times but can’t get a season ticket for one reason or another have now had it made more or less impossible to get tickets. There should be something in place to make it fair for everyone. As usual whinging sad moaning losers have ruined it for a lot of people.

"There should be something in place to make it fair for everyone." - so what do you suggest if not make everyone go through the proper system? Ive benefited from passed on tickets but can see the reason behind the changes. Same with them limiting corporate allowance for quinns etc. No use just whinging calling people losers, sounds a bit embarrassing to be honest.

Maybe a ballot where so many tickets can be applied for providing you have purchase history. Or as suggested on another thread being able to pass tickets you’ve purchased on to friends or family in your network.

I’ve been going to games for almost 30 years and I’ve never had a season ticket. It’s now more or less impossible for me to go to a match which has made it a little unenjoyable supporting Sunderland.

i would agree with that but only if the recipient of the ticket had whatever the required number of points the game sold out on otherwise you could have someone who just fancied the day out with 0 points getting one over someone with points who just missed out because they weren't quick enough or didn't have access to the ticketing site at the time they went on sale.

They need to introduce some way of legitimately passing on away tickets. Even if you are just allowed 2 or 3 per season.

In theory aye, but that wouldn't work in practice.

If one of our group has to drop out the day before a game, how am I meant to find someone on 40+ points at the drop of a hat ?

I've got mates down south who will come to any away game in London even if I notify them a few hours before kick off. It happens all the time

I would say 2 a season maximum otherwise every game someone has a mate who has dropped out at short notice so needs to pass their ticket on

i can see there's genuine cases of not being able to go at short notice but they'll be few and far between. i had a last minute change of plan and was able to go to brentford, looked on the site and there was a return so was able to go. there should be a system where folk can hand back tickets at short notice and those who can travel at short notice get them.
look at how many are apparently suddenly available for port vale because of unforseen circumstance change. i'd wager these unforseen circumstances won't apply if we got to wembley.
can't be arsed for an argument as we've been through this many times but it looks to me you're facilitating the farming out of tickets with regards to your last line and is exactly the reason for all this clart on.

Suggestion on how to retain benefits for higher point holders while providing an opportunity for people to build points in a fair and practical way:

Current threshold system remains - higher points holders have priority access through phasing. Three year points drop off remains.

10% of tickets for away matches are retained for ballot. Ballot open to those not guaranteed a ticket (phase 2 through to zero point SCHs).

Annual ballot pass needed to enter ballots - bought before start of season, say £40. Fee of, say, £10 to enter ballot for each particular game. Fee generates club income and filters out those without genuine commitment. For all league games, this is a £220 cost per year, plus away cup games. Maybe £250 per year, give or take.

¼ point offered for each ballet entered. This would provide 4.5 points per year (18 away games), plus extra ¾ of a point for every successful ballot. (where you get the full point for attending - has to be scanned).

Add on a couple of cup ballots and a person could earn 5 points min a season if they failed every ballot and cup games drawn away, and we're out in first round....obv more points depending if they were successful in getting tickets through ballot of phases, and for cup runs and home draws.

Over three seasons, a person could build aprox 20-25 points....and be in the running for phase 3, without affecting the top end of points holders.

It would make it harder for those at the lower points end - the 3rd phase (who, by definition, are not the ultra committed higher points holders who've been going to all away games for years etc). But there'e nothing to stop 3rd phasers paying to enter a ballot to retain their points.

Where-as it does provide those with a genuine commitment to start and continue collecting points to do so - will cost them a bit of money and will need to be maintained to move up the ladder over three years.

Doesn't provide any 'unfair' advantage to less committed fans who might fancy an odd away game - they can pay and have a small chance without much downside for anyone else.

Increase the ID checks - with a proper points penalty for those mis-using away tickets.

Provide branches with a number of tickets for general use by the branch to help keep the brach going/full the bus. This would be capped.

Reduce the number of away tickets that are reserved for corporate/family and friends. The club can surely ask for/buy and (give/sell) a manageable number from home team corporate if they want to.
I can see a potential £250 outlay with potentially nothing to show for it but 5 BCP to be a difficult pill to swallow for some fans

For the next season the club need to be cracking down on the reselling etc. Then see where we are at the end of next season

Also I don't see why branches should get any preferential treatment - they are already part of the problem without guaranteeing them enough tickets to fill a bus irrespective of whether or not they have the right number of people on the right points. As others have said, if you don't have enough members to fill your bus then you shouldn't be operating a branch

Register in groups of 4 of 5 and either put in a group application where the amount of people in the group wanting to attend must have the average amount of points. So if 3 have 60 points and one 40 you can either apply at 60 points for 3 tickets or wait till it reaches 50 then apply for 4.
It works in my head but their will be pit falls.

As far as i'm aware it is affecting the branches as well.
I travelled to Leeds with my local branch and we had 31 on the coach. If they had the tickets that would of been full and a waiting list.
