I’ve just see the Ashes Squad announced

It seems a bit odd to be naming a 16 man squad for a home series. I was hoping to get Matty P back and only lose him in the event of injury to Robinson or Broad. They might have him carrying drinks all summer now. A 16 man squad for just the first two tests at that. I should probably count myself lucky they didn't name a squad for the entire ashes series or it might have been a 24 man squad with Lees called up to carry drinks as well

Root is the designated second spinner if leach is blasted out of the game
Of course he is. But that’s not the same thing as saying Root plays the entire series as first spinner if Leach falls down the stairs tomorrow and breaks his leg. The absence of a second spinner in the squad does not mean we won’t draft one into the team.

Shrewd you like. I’m thankful basically because I would never had realised

Thanks again

Indeed. He’s handy to hold an end for five overs or so . The Aussies though will clearly try to blast leach so Root will be needed
Indeed. Leach’s overs have been a key element of Bazball. They’ll try to hit him out if the attack like they did in Oz. I’d go so far as to say that whether they succeed could be the single biggest key point of the series.

They will succeed at some point . What will be the hope that it also brings a couple of soft dismissals from skiers on the boundary

No need to be an arse about it mate. The context was a thread where people were overthinking the omission of a second keeper. It seemed relevant. If a little obvious.

I’ll be an arse in response to smart Alec posts thank you

I’ll talk all night but I reserve to be an arse when met with sarcasm

Not my intent. If that was the impression, genuinely sorry. It’s hard to do tone in black and white text.

I’m surprised they have picked 16 for a home series to be honest. We don’t normally do this, we normally take 16/17 on an overseas tour!

Particularly if they’re not picking a reserve spinner or keeper (which they have no need to)

Would make much more sense to pick a 12 or even a 13 if they’re worried about injuries

Crawley
Duckett
Pope
Root
Brook
Stokes
Bairstow
Robinson
Broad
Anderson
Leach
Wood
+ 1 from Potts, Tongue and Woakes if they don’t believe one of the other bowlers can make it

I wouldn’t pick Crawley, but it’s been done to death now. So we all move on.

Foakes is unlucky, but that’s international sport.

Mark wood was bowling in the warm up at Ashington Vs Tynemouth today

Terrible really that these not in the squad can't go and get some red ball game time
