How would you mime you're stroking a dog?

If you played charades and it was your turn how would you play it. I would lower my hand and move it left to right keeping the hand faced down, but people might think I'm flicking through a book.
This is one of the craziest posts I have read on here, however. Low to the ground. Palm down. Left to right.

Agreed. If you are flicking through a book or newspaper you’d press your finger on your lip to mimic getting the friction to turn the page.

What's this left to right nonsense?

What if the imaginary dog is facing the other way? You'd be pushing the poor things fur the wrong way causing irritation and angst. The correct way to mime stroking a dog is to use one hand stroking the imaginary dog's back and the free hand miming tickling under the chin, thereby giving no doubt as to the dog's direction.
