How fast is fast?

I always thought someone was quick from a personal perspective when I went out to bat with no intention of ever getting forward, not running quick to get on strike and not being fussed if I got out as long as my health was still in tact. Chris drum ex kiwi was quickest I faced 7 over duck

Chris Matthews an ex Aussie test bowler or Nixon McLean were the quickest for me.

Played against a lot of them in the 80's & 90's. Quickest I faced was Colly Solomon who played for Ashington. Played against him in a Cup Tie at Eppleton and he had total respect from Jimmy Adams. Tried to play a pull shot against him and he hit me in the chest before i'd come down on the ball. I had 3 tits on my chest after he'd hit me !!!

Really quick bowlers around at the time. Wes Thomas I played against a few times and that Wasim Akram kid was a bit lively at Burnopfield by all accounts. Walsh and Bishop at Tynedale weren't too shabby.

Faced a few over the years. McLean was sharp at Evenwood, Pascall was quick this season (although a bit erratic), Whitmore Quinn was lethal one night we played them.

Fastest for me though is a bit left field and was Heath Davis when he was at Ryton. The only time in my life I genuinely felt he was too quick for me!!

Played with Steve Elworthy, Tony Gray at Bishop Auckland in the early 90s. Genuine quicks. Stewart Wilkinson up there with the best at his peak even with 1st Class . Top bowler could have had choice of 1st Class counties. 80s and 90s Durham leagues were full of genuine test quicks.

I'd say anything above 88mph is fast in my eyes.[DOUBLEPOST=1378996545][/DOUBLEPOST]
i always classed 88mph and above as f***ing fast with 95mph f***ing ridiculous.

Great minds and that.[DOUBLEPOST=1378996742][/DOUBLEPOST]
Shoaib is incredible. I saw a spell at the Riverside against Somerset where he got 4 wickets in quick succession all bowled I think. You just couldn't pick up the ball from the side, his arm came over the stumps went flying and the bat came down late.
A bit of an arsehole by all accounts but a wonderful player to watch in full flow.

Aye, saw him tear Scotland a new arsehole at the riverside. Couldn't believe how quick he was. probably the fastest post speed gun like. Think Waqar in his hayday might have given him a run for his money.

Did he really need that long run up? I think it was to intimidate the batters like. The rawalpindi express is a knob, I'm going by personal experience anarl.

Alex Johnson in the 70s at Whitburn - only faced him in cup ties and he was quick. Was at Nottingham as a young lad.

The fastest twins I ever faced were the Plowrights at Mill Hill (North London) in the 80s. When they were bowling in tandem you literally didn't know whether you were coming or going, and both made the ball hit the bat very hard, if you were lucky.

Walsh bowled at me in the nets when I was 12 or 13. He was fast, but I don't think he was trying very hard. Bishop was only about 18 or 19 when he came over and he was yards quicker than anything else in the league. Add to these two Kelvin Williams and Tynedale proved a productive club for quicks.

A mate of mine years ago who was a good second team player got a call up for the firsts after a good few knocks. Not sure who they were playing but Stephen Peel was playing for them. He went into bat, took his guard then done the old look round the field. He says he had to double take when he looked at the Wicket keeper and slips, they were a f***ing mile back:lol:. He says he was f***ing lightning compared to what he was use to
