How did it go so wrong for Leicester?

Iversen was Championship goalkeeper of the season one year wasn't he? The mistake in hindsight was not having him number 1 for the full season

From winning the league to relegated in under 10 years.

It seemed like with the right transfers they could have established themselves in the top 6 after winning the league yet it's all just gone tits up for them somehow.

no idea but what a day when they lifted the league title. Those that saw it will never forget it, magic.

You could argue that after massively overachieving they've gone back to their 'natural' place

Still find it odd that they appear to have no money, taking out loans etc. I though they were sorted financially with the owner bankrolling them, and even after his tragic and untimely death, his son inheriting the family fortune and taking over?

Maybe the Leicester fans on here know the details @Burlesque @Squirrel ? If it's not too painful to talk about right now?
Dust has settled , the weekend started well with that lot from the wrong end of the M69 getting beat ( would have been rubbing a lot of salt in the wounds if that shower had gone up and us down)
Sunday shouldn’t have been a day with our fate out of our own hands but it was and we got what we deserved for what’s gone on this season. Topped off with being in the Barnsley end on Monday with the missus who has been a season ticket holder at Oakwell for over 30 years.
What went wrong ?
Well amongst a load of shite spouted on here by some on this thread , all of the main reasons have also been highlighted by others.
Firstly it shouldn’t have ever got anywhere near this bad no matter what , it is inexcusable.
However it is a plain fact that things changed forever when the helicopter went down.
We lost our leader and our strongest assert.
Top lost a father and was left with a Business empire devastated by Covid and a Football club to oversee as he mourned .
That he hasn’t managed to be as strong and successful as his dad is no surprise and he should never be blamed in my opinion.
There are people in senior positions at LCFC who are extremely well paid to make sure the club continued to run as it had before Vichai died , but without him to watch over they have been complacent , negligent and arrogant .
Rodgers was never going to get sacked because they didn’t want change . These are the people who were reporting back to Top and making out all was well.
Jon Rudkin was some insignificant academy coach who somehow became trusted by Vichai to rise to Director of Football and Susan Whelan was somebody who Vichai brought in from King Power to be basically the most powerful person at the club.
It worked while Vichai was there but since he died they have run it like a private cabal and Brendan was “in”
That test Rodgers went along with it , always thinking he was too good for us and was bound to get the move to an “elite” club that deserved “Brand Brendan” The way he kissed Newcastle’s arses when we played them last year was cringingly , vomit inducing. He obviously thought Eddie was just keeping the seat warm for him. The blokes a ****.
The football became boring and away uk to watch in the main even though on occasion we were unbelievably good aswell 🤷🏽‍♂️
He turned the club poisonous this season to prove a point , the players knew it was all turning to shot and basically packed in .That is a bit of a generalisation but isn’t far wrong.
I don’t get any of this “ they’ve gone back to their natural level “ bollocks.
I’ve watched them for 52 years , it’s been shit , brilliant, frustrating , wank, unbelievable and only very occasionally uneventful over that time. Split between the top two division , more in the top than the second and one amazing year in the 3rd ( the only one in our history )
Where’s our natural position and how does it compare with Sunderland’s for instance?
Looking forward to seeing you next season.

Next season will be interesting, do you see a big turnover in players?
Parachute payments still provide a big advantage so I think you’ll at least make top 6.
I’m not a big fan for obvious reasons but it was great to see your title win as it provided hope for the rest of us outside the big 6.

To be honest I couldn’t even guess .
I do know if they keep Smith on it won’t go down well.
I suppose it’s all about who gets the job and what he has or hasn’t got to work with.
Not looking forward to playing you 🤣

Suppose you’ll have to get a manager sorted fairly soon as he’ll no doubt want a say in who comes in.
The team you play next season won’t bear much resemblance to this years. We’ve had 4 very successful loans who have all returned then of course there’s the ongoing speculation regarding Gyokeres and Hamer.

As a Sunderland fan living in Leicestershire I'm thrilled to bits - their fans had become cocky, expecting them to kick on and become established, their management/owners expected they had done already, now they're back with the reality of a number of clubs (like ourselves, West Brom, Leeds (haha), Norwich etc.) fighting it out between the leagues. Not wanting to sound cocky myself, I would now like to think our management has a plan, a set up and a philosophy that has half a chance of getting us out of that fu**ing spiral, though time will tell.

Leicester will lose Maddison, Barnes, Tielemans plus they have something like 6 or 7 other players out of contract, with no manager and I'm not sure their owners (who reportedly are willing to write of nearly £200m of their debt) are now firmly behind the club as they were under the previous chairman.

Seven years after winning the league, a couple of years after winning the cup, finished 5th two seasons ago and the season before that, 8th last season - this game doesn't half bite you in the arse.
Me too mate 👍

Most of my Leicester supporting mates know they have been 'punching' for a while and are quite pragmatic about the shift to the Championship. They are looking forward to getting new players and be part of a competitive league and enjoy their footy once again .........this season has been a ball-ache for a lot of them..........bad management and too many players not giving a f*ck

Very well put
Most Leicester fans are grounded and as you say pragmatic. We also hate the clappers and other all that bollocks.

A season or two in the championship should help Leicester rediscover themselves as a club. They have a loyal fanbase, and I doubt the King Power will become a sea of empty seats. They will lose the mercenaries that have drained big wages for minimum effort, and with some shrewd recruits of younger, hungry players, allied to a couple of academy graduates given their chance, they should be easily capable of a top 6 finish. Plus of course, there are the parachute payments.

Hopefully those who stay had relegation clauses - and if not, the likes of Vardy do the decent thing and either leave for nowt or take a voluntary cut.

that squad that won the PL that year man  80% of them were absolute dogshit. No doubt the RTG Pedants will be along to disagree shortly but It was like a parallel universe that season or some kind of social experiment.

He has looked average to poor the times I’ve seen him this season. Maybe championship is his level but I’d not want to swap him for Patterson.

Gelled as an excellent team/unit with some class acts-vardy schmeichael, mahrez and kante were flying.

Like Frank Clarke, Larry Lioyd and Dave Needhan winning the League and European Cup I suppose
We did what we did, it’s gone now.
Get over it and don’t be so bitter

Exactly - loads of under rated players, nowt flash individually have fitted into successful, league title/championship title winning teams. Can add these to your examples too
John Mcgovern
Alan kennady
Jimmy case
Tony Gale
