Hot Spot vs Ultra edge.

Like I have mentioned on a few threads I've only gotten into cricket properly in the last few years. Can anyone explain why ultra Edge seems to have taken over from hotspot when it comes to lbw decisions. I would have thought hot spot was better as with ultra edge you can get false noises.

There were stories that players were coating the edges with something which could mask a very thin edge

also the cameras were not set correctly to indicate all hot spots. I agree there has been some strange spikes on the edges this summer but imo it’s the best method rather than hotspot

Fair enough.

I’ve been watching cricket for years and I genuinely have no idea.

To me the obvious choice would be to use both. The more technology that can help reach the correct decision the better, I would think 🤷‍♂️

Heard from good sources that players were coating their bats
Agree they should use both when coming to a decision though.
