Could be more dross in it next season thenI've seen some absolute dross playing in L1 this season, especially strikers.
Still think he’s lower than that standard having watched a lot of league 1

He's had more opportunities than he should have. Him being a million miles away stood out like a sore thumb on the first day. Every minute he's been involved since hasn't changed anyone's mind. He's been abysmal for the under 23s as well. I've never known a player of his age who lacks mobility. If the lad had played the full season I'd say fair enough. While he has looked poor, he's made 20 appearances this season, averaging 23mins game time per game and has started 4 games all season.
I'm not praising anything he's done, because he's done nothing, but no other striker in our squad got the same luxuries as Burstow did this season, and he's quite comfortably out worst striker. He also has made 20 appearances this season but he averages almost double the amount of game time in those 20 with 44mins. He's also had the benefit of three times the amount of starts that Hemir has. He has a better xG than Burstow, which tells you he gets into better positions than Burstow does as a striker, again probably a really weak argument.
It's probably a really pointless argument overall but I'm not sure Hemir has had much of an opportunity this season. A loan is definitely needed for him next season to build confidence if anything.
I don't think he's a league player, but don't know enough about the national league to know if he'd be ok there.Could be more dross in it next season then

All the players are being watched every day and as soon as the club stop believing they get released. In the meantime all Hemir can do is keep banging them on for the reserves.A medium term project? He's never going to make it. He's absolutely terrible, he can't even run.
It's not that easy to release them when they are on a 5 year contract. He needs to improve his performances for the reserves, he has struggled at that level, though I heard he scored yesterday. All the players are being watched every day and as soon as the club stop believing they get released. In the meantime all Hemir can do is keep banging them on for the reserves.
How exactly do you release someone who is on a 5 year contract? It’s not just him, we have a few more in the squad who are in a similar situation. The club keeps banging the sustainability drum but we will be miles away from it if we continue to give unproven, untested kids 5 year deals. All the players are being watched every day and as soon as the club stop believing they get released. At 20 year old he needs to be showing more than he is, there is just nothing there. Caicedo recently moved to Chelsea for £115m at 21 year old.
He desperately needs a loan to L1 next season, as you say he shouldn't have been given the number 9 and been so involved. The lack of experience has been a hindrance in lots of different ways.
And decisions like this and the people involved definitely need questioning and peddlingWill go down as the worst striker we've ever had.
Literally looks like he's been picked out of the crowd.
5 f***ing year.![]()
They showed they could do something, anything like the basics though.Give the lad a chance man ffs he’s a bairn he’s barely had time to learn is his refs of top class strikers didn’t score much at that age it’s his first season

He’ll not make it at any level in this country. There’s a reason he wasn’t sent out on loan in January, he’d have been disgraced at non league level.Could be more dross in it next season then

Burstow is very poor as well but at least he can move about the pitch. He also shouldn't be playing at this level.

I hope they give Hemir a decision to make, because personally, even League 2 would be a good move for him. But weigh up the option of "stay here, go to someone in the North for game time, or return to Portugal on loan for game time". See which he goes for. It's difficult to assess sometimes. I was listening to Les Ferdinand on Harry Kane this week and saying they knew he was decent and he'd have a career, he was a great finisher but they didn't know at what level he'd play. Something at 19/20 after a couple of average even failed loans just clicked and he worked harder and progressed quickly.
Whilst I'm not saying Hemir is going to be the next Harry Kane it's hard for a young lad who has only played B team / reserve league football to then move to a new country style of play etc and adapt so I do have some sympathy with him. But he's so far away in terms of his general play and the lack of impact he has you just cannot see him actually doing anything here. He wasn't even a regular starter for the Benfica B side either - I cannot see him achieving anything here.
I agree. He needs to learn the football and the ropes and hopefully some quality comes out, but will any English team take that chance and give him the games?
If we loan him back to Portugal or a European side then it's likely game over for him here.
It’s surprising how many young talents don’t appear to do the bare minimum of working hard. It's difficult to assess sometimes.
