The way that some go on is ridiculous, but they're not the majority, they're not even a large minority. Just like there's some in your support who still won't criticise Moyes, and there are some who only criticise Moyes. Know-nowts in shouting loudly shocker.

Benitez took over a broken side and managed 1.3 PpG in his final 10 games, most other fans know that he did an ok job (with some mistakes) and that ok job would have kept us up in other seasons. Bear in mind of all the miracle survivals on Wearside, only Advocaat managed a better PpG than Benitez did. Since relegation, he's overhauled a squad, brought in an entire team (1GK, 4D, 4M, 2S) while still making a £30m profit, turned a f***ing shambles into a league leading side with the most wins, the best attack and best defence in the league.

He's at times too pragmatic in home games, at times too slow in making substitutions and puts too much faith in average players (Anita, Colback) because they follow his instructions better than others (Mbemba).

The Newcastle fans I know, the ones on here and the ones on other boards see his faults, but see he's a very good manager that we're lucky to have.

Long term (if he stays) I think he'll be a cracking manager for us and, almost as importantly, he'll get loads of support from a crowd unfamiliar with actually liking the manager.

Maybe, but he's stated quite categorically that he wanted to stay in England near his family. I'd be surprised if he changed his mind any time soon.

Benitez said he'd keep Newcastle up with that squad.

He failed to beat Sunderland at home who were rotten, failed to beat Villa who had lost game after game and failed to keep Newcastle up.

Whatever had happened in previous seasons he failed in that season ..... juggle ppg etc but the truth is he failed.

Literally nobody is denying that Benitez failed to keep Newcastle up. That's irrefutable.

fwiw, in most seasons, with that points return, he would have kept Newcastle up with that squad. Unfortunately, the teams around Newcastle also performed well in the run-in and the improvements that Rafa made weren't enough.

Team | 1st 28| last 10|
Swan |--1.0-- | --1.7--|
New |--0.92-| --1.3--|
Sun |--0.86-| --1.5--|
Nor |--0.86-| --1.0--|
Vill |--0.57--| --0.1--|

He did fail to keep Newcastle United up at the end of the 15/16 season. But you seem insistent that those 10 games should override the rest of the mans career before and after, and that he should be known as a failure from here on in.

The only reason I can think for that is this; You believe that Newcastle United fans are, as a collective, declaring Benitez to be infallible. Because of this perception you exaggerate the opposite way to redress the balance. Unfortunately, few if any Newcastle fans think Benitez is perfect so when you insist on declaring him a failure you appear to be incapable of objectivity.

I'm not talking about Benitez in any other way than that he failed to keep Newcastle up as he clamed he would ..... hardly 'mission impossible'.

What kind of manager would begin a new job with a prediction of relegation?

He didn't have to make a prediction of relegation but he claimed he would get the high priced flops playing.

He claimed he had plenty of games to keep Newcastle up and, tbh, I and many others thought he would.

There were many Sunderland posters who basically said 'shit, that's them safe'.

As I said it was hardly mission impossible with that squad but he failed ......

..... Sunderland, Villa & Norwich were terrible and he couldn't manage a win against any of them.

He did? Got a link?

He also lost to Norwich. They weren't in a good position but he failed to do the job he was meant to do.

Don't need one, I have a memory ..... it was only last season, how convenient that you forget.

He was brought in specifically to do that job and obviously convinced Ashley ...... he failed.

I didn't forget because it didn't happen. Until you show me a link there's no proof otherwise.

Your memory is shot, we proved that the other day. You can't remember more than two weeks ago

Again, what kind of manager would he be if he came in and declared he couldn't get a misfiring side firing again?

And he did turn the form around from less than a point a game to 1.3pts per game, which in past seasons would have been enough to get to safety. In the same period, Allardyce improved results even more than Benitez managed to (0.86ppg -> 1.5ppg). Oh and Newcastle were terrible too, you seem to be suggesting that Newcastle United weren't, but they really were.

He failed to keep us up, of course he did, that's undeniable. But one failure doesn't define a man's career, nor his future.

Yes I'll spend time looking for links to satisfy a sad sack who'd rather spend time on here than cleaning the house while his poor lass is out at work providing for her family

I never mentioned his career before Newcastle, you keep bringing that up.

I do, because you are using 10 games to criticise a man who's been successful for much of his career.

Even if that were true, at least it's my own house I would be cleaning and not someone elses.

Chasing someone elses chickens around the garden like an over-the-hill Rocky Balboa.

I only asked for a link but as you've gone all defensive like you usually do when you can't back up your statements I am going to assume you're talking shit as per usual.

No I'm criticising him for those games and nothing else ..... I've never mentioned his career.

There are loads of links .... you obviously have all day to look, unless your child is home and you can't spend all day on here.

No there isn't because it didn't happen.

It's the same thing again, you come up with some lie and then I ask you for the proof or refute it and it isn't forthcoming. Instead you deflect with something about me being 'sad' or 'obsessed'

I say making stuff up to prove a point could be seen as 'sad' or 'obsessive'.

When you're painted in a corner it's either 'stop taking things so seriously' or 'this isn't a court of law, I don't have to prove anything' or similar.

I'm only saying you're sad and obsessed because you keep proving it by coming on here day after day.

Yes, Ashley brought in Benitez because he said he might take them down.

What? I only asked for a link where Benitez said he would keep us up. Not sure what you're on about now? Could be interpreted as a deflection.

Stop making stuff up man.
