Follow both Sunderland and Gateshead my local side and can concur with what was said about the mix of fans and the core heed army. The community of Gateshead and the football team are really starting to grow together which will hopefully be shown tonight with a canny crowd. It would be nice to see Charlton on the end of a defeat in a big game for a chance!

Early shout out for my home town club playing at home to Charlton Athletic at the GIS tomorrow night.

I know full well that many Sunderland fans think of GFC as an extension of NUFC but that's not really true. The real hard core Heed fans detest Newcastle with a passion unmatched by even the most rabid Sunderland fan in my experience.

Not going to the game myself mind as I find the GIS a soulless place to watch football and normally limit my Heed games to random away matches which also satisfy my ground hopping hungers. Saw them draw 3-3 at Southport earlier this season and try and get to maybe two away matches each season when it does not clash with Sunderland.

Would love to see them get Man Utd or Liverpool away in a third round match which would set them up financially for 5 years.
Any prospect of them ever moving into a proper football ground of their own away from GIS?

Fuck em. Mag wannabies

Just had it on for 5 minutes. You’d think the mags were playing. Must piss the proper heed fans off no end.
Newcastle need to tap into this Newcastle need to sweep up all the young talent into their academy Newcastle now have the recourses …… who’s playing tonight ?

When Gateshead were voted out of the Football League many years ago, guess who the decisive vote came from that demoted them to non league? Yes, their lovely neighbours from across the Tyne!

Gateshead was part of County Durham then and had a large SAFC following. As a place it’s closely associated with Newcastle nowadays because in the 90’s when Newcastle council realised that the other side of the river looked a bit scruffy after they redeveloped the Quayside they partnered with Gateshead council to get their side developed, thus the Sage, the Baltic, the Hilton etc etc.. some people think NewcastleGateshead is a place!
Loads of safc lads throughout Gateshead back in the day , the Gateshead bus to sundland aways was legendary, was told they sometimes hired a stripper to travel with them to keep the lads entertained on longer journeys
