Early shout out for my home town club playing at home to Charlton Athletic at the GIS tomorrow night.

I know full well that many Sunderland fans think of GFC as an extension of NUFC but that's not really true. The real hard core Heed fans detest Newcastle with a passion unmatched by even the most rabid Sunderland fan in my experience.

Not going to the game myself mind as I find the GIS a soulless place to watch football and normally limit my Heed games to random away matches which also satisfy my ground hopping hungers. Saw them draw 3-3 at Southport earlier this season and try and get to maybe two away matches each season when it does not clash with Sunderland.

Would love to see them get Man Utd or Liverpool away in a third round match which would set them up financially for 5 years.

Heeeeeed

Done my apprenticeship just down the road at Liner Concrete Machinery so have a bit of a soft spot for them... our side of the water.

My mate is a big heed army lad and I've been to a couple of games with him there. Cheap as chips to drink there! I'm sure we were having bottles of lager for about a quid a go.

Anyway, good luck to the heed. Would be class to see them do well and get into the football league finally.

When Gateshead were voted out of the Football League many years ago, guess who the decisive vote came from that demoted them to non league? Yes, their lovely neighbours from across the Tyne!

Gateshead was part of County Durham then and had a large SAFC following. As a place it’s closely associated with Newcastle nowadays because in the 90’s when Newcastle council realised that the other side of the river looked a bit scruffy after they redeveloped the Quayside they partnered with Gateshead council to get their side developed, thus the Sage, the Baltic, the Hilton etc etc.. some people think NewcastleGateshead is a place!
