Sunderland supporters are more familiar with his dulcet tones in his matchday commentator role or as lead singer with his band, however, this September Frankie Francis will put money where his mouth is for charity.

In aid of the Foundation of Light, Frankie and his friend Ryan will be taking part in this year’s Great North Run.

The pair have stepped up their training regime since it was confirmed that the event would be taking place, after missing a year due to the pandemic.

Frankie and Ryan will be raising money to support the work of Sunderland AFC’s official charity.

Each year the Foundation supports thousands of young people and their families, tackling issues such as mental health, holiday hunger and social isolation.

The run takes place on Sunday 12 September and the duo are hoping Black Cats fans will get behind their cause and sponsor them to raise those vital funds.

“We’ve decided to run the Great North Run for the first time this year and, in the process, we are hoping to raise funds for the excellent Foundation of Light.” Frankie explained.

“We’ve been pals for years and are always looking for new challenges, so we thought why not raise some money for good causes in the process?

“As a bonus, whatever funds we raise, after the race, BSI will kindly be contributing a final donation.”

Don't forget to play today. Your money goes towards providing things like a Family Cooking course that will teach low income families how to prepare and cook healthy meals on a budget.
