UK viewing figures are a drop in the ocean to the expat Indian community around the globe.

As much as I don't watch the IPL and have rarely done in the last 20 odd years of it's existence.

It's worth billions and ain't going to slow down anytime soon.

As much as it's popularity in this country has waned.

Alright then, I’ll qualify my comment:

“outside of India, for anyone who isn’t Indian.”

It’s like the Irish gushing about how much of a phenomenon GAA is because it’s broadcast in every Irish bar across the world…

See also NASCAR on US military bases.

Of course it's extremely popular with Indians, both native and expats but, otherwise, only those with a superficial knowledge of cricket can follow and enjoy it.

I'm not saying Bhogle isn't a twat btw.

GAA isn't on the same planet. Superbowl a better comparison.

Yanks going on at what a spectacle that is sound as stupid as Bhogle.

Doesn't matter what us in the UK think about how shite the IPL and Superbowl is though. Worth an absolute shit ton of money and won't be going anywhere.

Our own cricket in this country could go down the pan though.

I’m not keen on the SuperBowl comparison like, because that genuinely is a global event. That’s why I used a lesser known and not as well travelled US sport ;).

Not wanting to put to much of an argument up either way to be honest though. Just thought it was a horrific example of a cult member not knowing what he’s talking about.

The IPL has been, is and will continue to be one of the biggest domestic sporting tournaments in the world.

I know there is some on here who take every opportunity to have a go at it.

But it’s not even a debate the popularity of it, both in terms of crowds in the stadiums and the tv deal it has.

People have different tastes and views on sport, those that like the IPL and do not find the county championship as interesting don’t seem the need to have a pop at the county championship every other day.

So find it tiresome the constant knocking of a tournament such as the IPL which has been nothing short of a resounding success.

Been some absolute cracking games even early on in the tournament this time round and continue to thoroughly enjoy it, if that’s allowed and not a sin;)

As you say, people have different tastes which is why forums are so popular. IPL is not generally popular with the more traditional cricketer follower because of the contrived rules to make big hitting easier and therefore more frequent. Having a distaste for it doesn't equate to knocking it ,or "having a pop" if cogent reasons are given for that distaste. Name calling,e.g.childish Whiners, moaners, negativity, even w**kers, are totally uncalled for, isn't mature debate and reflects badly on the individual poster.
"One man's meat is another man's poison" even though
No one can deny IPL is a vast money spinner
