Harry Gardiner in from South Shields

Whenever I’ve seen him he does something that we dont at Senior level .
Scores tap ins and is often in the 6 yard box
Hope he does well
Aye he had that nack, just didn't see it being transferrable to our first team because of the way we play. He'd have ended playing a sort of 10 role in the same way Rigg should have been, who is loads better.

We haven't utilised the talent we have well at all, all across the club not just Gardiner. It's not that i think he wasn't worth giving an opportunity to, i just have no confidence we'd have used him (or anyone else) correctly
How do his under 23 stats compare to Hemir & Burstow? 😀

Change can’t come soon enough.
They both looked pretty shit at u23 for us when i saw them play that level.

I get your point ( re the move to senior level )
But surely the coaches talk to one another and can adapt playing styles to suit ( ie get balls into front post /six yard box for a” poacher “ type player )
Not sure if you saw it second half yesterday -but Clarkey was going nuts as he put a great cross into front post that was crying out for someone to attack the front post -no one anywhere near or anticipating where it would go ?
And then you get Dodds saying we don’t need a traditional Centre forward or there arnt any about ?!
Frustrating and certainly annoyed Jack Clarke

You're right, but just as you point out - it doesn't look like it!

Look at the game we had rusyn playing but never played balls into channels or over the top, then brought on hemir but subbed off the wingers and played through the middle

The better players have been given chances, Gardiner never looked to me like he had any special qualities to warrant first team opportunities. There's no shame in that and im sure he'll do well in the future, but probably not at this level
Agree with this.Seen him quite a few times playing when out on loan to Blyth. The lad always tried his hardest and had one or two flashes of potential but is no where near playing in the championship.Good luck to the lad though and as another poster said he may go on to have a decent career at the top end of non league football.

I've spoke to alot people in around football and nobody is shocked he's been released

He Will never be good enough for the Championship or evn League 1, if he makes pro career he's done well but he'll give it ago.

This is also aside Spellman who again isn't good enough for us.

Football is full of people who talk absolute bollocks.

He’ll find his level and time will tell what that is. Half the England team were released at one time or another because of peoples opinions. It’s a fine line.

Really hope the kid makes it.

I fail to see how he could be any worse than what we have attempted to fill the CF position with last season 🤦🏻‍♂️

Less tha 18 months ago, people wanted him to be playing for us 😂

Development isn't linear. It's cyclical. 18 months ago, he may well have played a part in the first team. I can't ever recall people suggesting he should be leading the line for us on a full time basis, just that he maybe could have been an option off the bench as part of the squad to show what he could do.

18 months ago, if somebody said Granit Xaha would be captain of a Sunderland side sitting 9th in the Premier League at the October international break, you'd have been committed to Cherry Knowle.

He would have at least contributed the same as Luis Hemir who was given multiple chances despite having a stinking attitude, turning up late for training, etc.

Giving a local lad a chance from the bench after scoring in the reserves is hardlys a laughable suggestion.
