Watching the Olympics etc there seems to be a load of games that are just based on football, likely invented by people who were crap at football so had to invent a new game.

Hockey - football with sticks.
Shinty - ditto
Hurling - ditto
Lacrosse - ditto but with a fishing net
Ice hockey - ditto on ice
Water polo - football in a pool
Octopush - hockey in a pool
Polo - football on a horse
Handball - football but with rush goalies everywhere!
