There are quite a few references to its game origins. Things like in some battle scenes the video going to a first person view like you have in game with a similar head up display for a few seconds. But you don’t need to know any of the game storyline. I’ve only played the original game back on the first Xbox about 20 years ago and I’m still enjoying the TV show.

Just started watching it.
It's got my video game nostalgia running at 100. Love it.
Only about 20 minutes in but seeing Elites, Banshees, the HUD display, assault rifles, energy sword. Brings back some memories playing this as a kid
