to be honest I wanted him instead of di canio. sick of people going on about how he has never managed in the prem but both the Southampton and Swansea managers hadn't worked in the prem and they have done ok.

I for one welcome our new fish based overlord

But see no photoshopping opportunities here

Gotta get behind him. We have no choice.

Can understand though that people are worried we have appointed a man who likes his teams to play football. And we have no footballers in the team. And that he's only managed in leagues where top to bottom can compete, whereas hell have she'll of a lot of games to play in this league where we will have less of the ball, etc etc.

We must give him time to mould the team how he wants it, I just hope he has enough about him to keep the shower of shite that is the current squad in the league.

We've got delicate little flowers that play for us. He's going to hurt their ego's.

These players are a disgrace and frankly any manager has a hard job with them. Back him.

I think people saying 'too similar too di canio' fail to appreciate just how mad di canio was. we're not talking about a little bit quirky, the bloke was absolutely insane. don't talk to catering staff... no ketchup... squirting water in his face...

As stated elsewhere, I don't think he's the man for the job.

I also think the huge difference between him and PDC in terms of tactics (different formations and approaches) betrays a lack of vision and direction from the DoF position.

Not as huge as it would have been if Pulis was appointed. Poyet will probably more tactically astute that PDC anyway and surely will get us better organised defensively.

Happy.

On the plus side, he isn't Pulis or Pearce, he's got a football philosophy based around possession football (which will be a novelty), did well at Brighton, doesn't seem as mental as Paolo, and I like that the club have stuck with going for a head coach and following through on creating a new structure to operate in.

On the negative side, he's got no experience of managing in the Prem (not too convinced that's too much of an issue, he's got plenty experience of playing in it) and there's a bit of dodginess imo about his sacking. I can't think of any other manager sacked for gross misconduct, they've all been sacked for losing games. Or shagging a director/chairman's wife. (Thinking of Tommy Docherty here but it's hazy, could be wrong).

Don't care if he sees us as a stepping stone to a bigger job (Chelsea) as it means he'd have done well here.

He hasn't even been appointed yet and half of our fans have already written him off, and people wonder why we can't attract a top manager! No fucker in the right mind would touch us with a barge pole and I can't say I'd blame them. Give the fella a bloody chance!

Very much this. I think people want to see our managers fail at times. This was certainly the case with PDC, especially in the media; even sadder when it's your own "fans" wanting it  Give the bloke a chance ffs

Firstly, it's not Pulis. That's f***ing massive as far as I'm concerned. Average attendances would have dropped by 5K IMO. Secondly, Poyet has a history of achievement whilst playing decent football. This could actually work!

Amazes me this type of comment. I'll be onto my 28th manager when the lad is appointed tomorrow, in 42 years - all of them have been bigged up, talked the talk but almost all have failed to do very much of note - and out of all 27 the best I can offer up is 2 x 7th placed finishes.

Do you know how many f***ing times me and thousands of others have jumped aboard a managerial bandwagon only to find that it was a shower of shite? Fairly obvious that there would be loads of "unsures" and "cant be arsed" fans out there.

Can I ask a question of how you cant see this? How many times do you think that people will get behind a manager before they start to have reservations, especially when we have had 5 managers in as many years?

The bloke has never managed in the top flight, was sacked by his club for gross misconduct, weve had 3 managers this year and you could say as he is out of work he is a cheap option as there will be no compen to pay.

I wish the bloke the best of luck, as we all do, but haway man, cut the cynics a bit of slack here.

This mackem was hoping for the temporary return of Reidy; to guide our peoples to a Lowe/Van Gaal inspired promised land, the moses of our nation.7

Yet, whilst this appointment may not be met with champagne and snickers, it deserves to be met with at least a cool glass of fosters and a bounty.

This soldier of the mackem cause; whose forefathers fought for Cromwell in the name of the people is ready.

My sword is at your cause Mr Poyet.

Make us proud

15% not arsed? Sunderland fans?
It's really strange. You would think that there wouldn't be 15% of people on here who haven't got an opinion on such a major decision. People who come onto message boards generally have an opinion. I really don't get anyone who chose that option.

Absolutely, it really saddens me that we seem to have a fair few "I told you so" fans that are quite happy for a manager to fail in order to give themselves a pat on the back and to point score against fans that are willing to give someone a fair crack of the whip.

So you expect 100% of fans, who have followed the club through leaner and leaner, to all, without question and without reservation to get behind the new manager? You clearly live in Utopia.
