Greek Island Holiday Help

Flying in to Mykonos from Manchester for a few nights then island hopping to Naxos by ferry and back through Athens for another few days.

Not ideal flying in and out from Manchester but doable.
Got to be done sometimes with the limitations from Newcastle.

Always fancies Paros which is the next island along from Naxos, meant to be very nice.
Might be at a wedding in Kos next year so we ell probably do 3 days there and fly over to either Athens or Thessaloniki for the rest of it.

I'm thinking Thessaloniki but it's a tough choice.

Greece is all new to me. The missus has mentioned how close Paros is and I'm not adverse to get a water taxi along for the day. Will report back.

Haven't been away since last year so I'm really looking forward to this break. Hope the Acropolis is as impressive as it is in my mind.

Thanks mate will do. I'm the same, a bit more discerning in my old age though. Don't like crowds, cant be too hot, food has to be good and I have to have nice scenery. Hopefully Greece and its islands will tick all the right boxes.
Precisely the mantra the missus and I have for holidays. Two years ago I was away for work and let her book a holiday. She booked Rome in mid July. I am sure Rome is fabulous in Spring or Autumn, but in July it was a disaster. There were heat warnings every day we were there it was so bloody hot, you could hardly see the Parthenon / Trevi fountain etc for tourists and it was a faff finding places that didn't want to rip you off for your meals.

Honestly mate Greece is f***ing class you'll love it.

Be good to hear about Naxos and Paros because I've been looking at it for a while now.

It is. 46 in crete one year we were there. 30+ one night
Same as our Zante holiday a couple of summers back, except not one night - it was the norm for pretty much all the week we were out there. Without aircon in the room I reckon I’d have had to sleep on an airbed floating in the pool. It was a heatwave though and not normal of my experience of Greece many, many more times before it.

Agreed. Loved every Greek island I’ve been to.

where flying from ? fancy naxon town myself but unsure if pain in arse getting there

We flew into Santorini and across on the ferry. Dead easy.

Naxos Town is not small and relaxing though. Need to head elsewhere on Naxos. Loads of Ausses rediscovering their routes in Naxos as they fly to Athens and fly to Naxos from there.

Depends what you like with Naxos - town and the other villages very different.
Sounds good. You'll have to let us know how it went when you get back (always looking for recommendations for a decent relaxing holiday, me! ) Have a great time mate.

I'd recommend Paxos for that. Fly to Preveza or Corfu and quick boat across.

Aye done most of the main islands and loved them all. Santorini the one least likely ho go back to, not really my thing, a bit dull. About 20 years ago mind but not inclined to go back.

Never been to Santorini yet but it is somewhere I’d like to go, just so I can see what it’s like and say I’ve been. Heard mixed things from people who have though. Beautiful obviously, but due to the landscape and cruise ships I’ve heard it can get uncomfortably busy and a pain getting around. Zante was my last visit in 2024 and loved it except the heat, I’ve been a couple of times before that as well.

Before that it was Mykonos for mine and the missus honeymoon. Loved it there as well and would definitely go back, but it’s insanely expensive so it would need to be a special occasion. Rented a quad bike there and drove all over the island, great experience doing that. Done a couple of other islands as well and loved them all tbh.

Santorini sunset was nice, but we were on the South of the Island, and only went to Fira once. It'll be far busier now, just not really our thing. Loads of tavernas and restaurants where we were, not many bars, so perfect for some, just not for us

Daughter is off to Mykonos this year, looks more her type of place than ours these days.

Kefalonia in 2 weeks for us, just hope it's lively enough.
