Greek Island Holiday Help

Drinks around the harbour on the steps etc are not cheap at all

They do long happy hours of 2 for 1 cocktails

Stick to the local beers and you won't go wrong
Yeah, the lasses drank cocktails during the happy hours in Skiathos, then local wine after that.

I always drink local beer - can't see the point of paying daft money for a bottle of something I wouldn't even drink at home, just because it's familiar.
You must of been there the same time as me.
Happy hour cocktails around the port for this tight little County Durham lad
Sounds like it.

Tried a few of the cocktail happy hours - the lasses reckoned the best ones were in the bar next to Ginfish, I can't remember it's name. Beer was only €4 in there as well, which was a bonus as most of the happy hours seemed to only refer to cocktails - all other drinks were normal price.

Did you have a late drink in the blind dog

Back from Alonnisos, ferry taxi took over an hour from Skiathos, but well worth it. Stayed in a villa in-between the old town and port. Food and weather great as usual. Very green and loads of different beaches a short car drive away. The old town is stunning and the views are spectacular.

It’s on my wish list to do a multi island holiday Skiathos- skopelos-Alonnisos . We did a day trip there from Skiathos and I thought it looked beautiful!

Loads of excellent restaurants, Alchemist for the orange pie (tremendous) Iokasti is spot on and Socrates in Piskopiano for a daytime Gyros and beer. Great place, enjoy.
Thanks, staying in new accommodation for the resort about 5 mins down the hill towards Hersonissis.

Been to Skiathos and Lindos both very nice. Been looking at Chania and Parga for September.
Only one town on Skiathos and it takes some beating imo. We will be back there in June.

Have a look at Megali Ammos it’s a fifteen/ twentyminute walk into the town harbours. The beach at Megali is ok with several great tavernas. The bus service is very good if you want to visit other beaches.
We stay in the town itself but are not bothered about a pool. We visit the beaches. Flights to Skiathos are not cheap mind but we think prices are ok once you’re there.

Agia Marina or Platanias, both a 20 minute bus ride to the west of Chania.

We’ve been going for 17 years, next visit is May 1.

@small mythos is on this thread and will vouch for Agia

You could look at Kassandra Bay hotel. It’s a bit out, too far to walk into town but on the bus route and I’m pretty sure there’s a water taxi from its jetty into the towns harbour.
Google Philian hotels Skiathos they’re all good quality and some have pools.

We stayed in Agia Marina, nice beach , plenty of restaurants and accommodation choices and on a good bus route into Chania . Another poster o here gave me some good info as he’d been there many times
Skiathos is lovely, the town has got a lovely atmosphere and it’s an easy island to get around.
never been to Lindos , when we went to Rhodes we had a holiday staying in Pefkos which was nice .
Second time we flew into Rhodes and spent a few nights in Rhodes town which is a beautiful place to explore and then had a week on another island before flying back from Rhodes

We loved Agia Marina, going back again this year - this time minus the sprained ankle that I ended up with just before we went away last year !

Oh wise SMB, we have decided, heatwave and dead TV presenters notwithstanding, that we will be going to visit a Greek island this Summer, but having never been before we have no real idea as to where to go.

The main criteria are that it has to be picturesque, near the water and have plenty of decent tavernas / restaurants where we can sit preferably by a lovely harbour or somesuch and relax with nice local seafood etc. But no thumping house beats from local bars, no cheesy cafes advertising a full bloody english for 5 euros, don't want it to be too built up, and so on. Think Malcesine on Lake Garda but shifted to Greece. Any ideas based on good experiences, anyone?
Santorini.
