Graves: some counties must go part time

If we assume that it isn’t fine at the moment. Would anyone be opposed to a football league style format - You could even bring in minor counties as well if they want?

Smaller divisions with promotion up and down. Say six or seven counties a division, which would make it far more likely you’re playing for something all season. TV deals for the top division or couple of divisions. More day-night tests for the TV viewers.

Naturally those poorer counties will drift towards the bottom end , while the richer/ bigger ones will be in the top few divisions - but that isn’t to say that if someone builds a good squad or gets investment that you wouldn’t see progression/ regression. It would take all that much for a good core to come through at the same time to lift you a few divisions. There’s been loads of times big counties have finished near the bottom of the second division.

Might be a stupid suggestion of course.

The problem is that the tv deals don’t exist. There is morning stopping them now, aside from demand

The counties should assert control of their players. How frustrating is it that you can't watch the top players in championship matches.

No wonder attendances are poor.

No they should not international cricket is miles more important than county cricket.

Central contracts are the best thing that has happened to our international team and results back that up.

Out of interest, why do you hate county cricket so much?

I don’t mate, I am just a big believer in country first club second.

Rugby and cricket have it right, if I had my way and it wouldn’t happen football would go down the same route.

It’s getting close that the Champions League and the premier league could become bigger than the World Cup and that is very wrong imo.

Country has to be the first priority don’t you agree.

Not in football, no. People are more tribal about their clubs (generally).

They should look to the Premier League model.

Clubs take precedence over Internationals.

England won the football world cup without impinging on league football.

Ok I know the timescales are different, but ultimately, England are dependent on the counties to develop players. There must be a price for this.
