Granit Xhaka - Our Captain

But if (for argument sake) RLB left next week, then Xhaka would have to be favourite?
Show some sense, of course he wouldn't.

Please don't take this as being negative about Granit - he's been absolutely superb, bosses midfield most weeks, excellent leader and captain. We couldn't have got anybody better. A leader and a half. And he's being called the Premier League' signing of the season for good reason. He may, in time, if that's what he wants, develop into a top manager. I hope he does, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

But a manager/head coach is something different to playing and captaining. And being a good player, leader or captain, doesn't necessarily translate to these roles. Especially not straight away. (Could be wrong (?) but I don't think Granit has even got his badges) It's a role that needs to be learnt, and we'd be looking for someone with experience - like RLB.

I'm hoping it is more of a careful planned progression of RLB becoming Director of Football, Granit becoming head coach, and Guendouzi becoming the main man in the middle of the park.
Why on earth would RLB want to be Director of Football anytime soon? Can you not see how much he enjoys his current role, and player involvement. He's ambitious - he's risen through the ranks the hard way, a decade coaching, then managing Lorient B-team, then their first team. Regis has reached top tier through getting us promoted and proving with us that he can manage in the most competitive league in the world. He wants to be successful - win things. As manager/HC. Who remembers Directors of Football? Glasner will be credited for Palace's FA cup win not their directors. RLB's 50, and I expect he'll be in top level management for a decade.

He has his A license but still needs a pro license. Can only do pro license after retirement as you need to take a year out to coach professionally.

I know people go on about priorities etc, but I’m desperate for us to have a proper go at the FA Cup this year. Xhaka’s been there and won it twice, and he’s just the man to take control of a massive occasion if we can get there. We don’t know if/when we’ll have another captain who can do that.
Would love to see him lifting the trophy at Wembley in May...and it could happen too with a bit of application and planning by the club.

Tbh would much rather have the above than a top 8 European place at present.
