It is worrying. I can understand selecting tall bowlers for Aus if they are on form. Tremlett looks short on pace and aggression than he was and I think it was a poor choice to take him let along play him in the first test.

Tremlett first test, Finn second, Rankin third, Onions fourth...!

Onions would of took wickets, its guaranteed.

I can't understand the thought process in not taking him.

He never goes for runs either, so you would of thought it he would fit in the disciplined way we play cricket.

Bizarre really.

Exactly. It seems just like in Footy you have to do more if you play for a northern club/county to gain recognition than a southern one.Anyone who disagrees is in denial.(IMO) .That's the way it is nothing to do with paranoia. The national media spotlight is much more concentrated on the south.Unfortunately its just the way it is.

Its true enough. Why select them if they are from the North? I would have selected Onions but I can understand the reasons why not. On the flat wickets in the NZ warm up matches he was cannon fodder. There's little conventional seam and swing in Australia after the new ball which has a very short window. I would have picked him but getting a shedload of wickets year in year out in English conditions for a bowler that relies on swing and seam is no preparation for Australia. It is utterly paranoid to say it is cos hes 'from the norf'

So explain why he wasnt picked at Durham ahead of Bresnan, which may have got him in the ashes side, fuck all to do with northerness

 Where's Bresnan from like?

I wouldn't care there's only really 3 counties you could class as 'northern' and in percentage terms they are represented massively. Anyone using the southern bias line is stark raving mad. Has anyone who believes this given a single reason why the selectors would choose a team they deliberately knew to be weaker. How does that benefit anyone?

It's only Durham fans who'd view Bresnan as a Southerner.

He's a better bat than GO and that is why I think he was picked.

You should pick bowlers t be bowlers, had this discussion at the test in durham, f***ing play to the individuals strength rather than hedging your bets on an inbetweener

Anderson - Lancarshire
Ballance - Yorkshire
Root - Yorkshire
Bairstow - Yorkshire
Bresnan - Yorkshire
Stokes - Durham

The North's hardly under represented.

Yes you should, but when you feel their bowling strengths are equal, then you look what else they can provide.

Colly will have got picked ahead of Bell because their batting performances were on a par with each other, but Colly's fielding was worth a couple of wickets and 20/30 runs per test. Bell is head and shoulders the better batsmen, but Colly offered more across all departments.

I don't agree with Bres over GO, but I can understand the rationale. I just hope they are right.

I do not think there is any anti Durham conspiracy here.
