Cant help feeling it is a double whammy for Onions given the fantastic season he has had and the E.C.B. have decided in their wisdom to take along Bresnan who might or might not be fit.Surely a decision should have been made when the tour party was announced about Bresnans injury as he could travel there as a passenger and not play at all.It all seems mighty unfair on Onions.Wonder if Onions played for a southern county if he would have been included in the original party regardless of Bresnan.

Bresnan is there for the allrounder spot/more batting strength down the order. He does a decent enough job with the ball and averages 30 with the bat. Simple fact is onions is only fighting for one position in Australian conditions and that is against Anderson and he won't win that one so I'd rather see him playing in SA than sitting on the England bench for 4 months

I think there is more chance of Onions being involved in a test match over there than one or two of the quicks. He will be playing in SA have overs under his belt and if there is an injury or two in the later tests he is more likely to get a call up than hoying someone like Tremlett in who will have had no bowling.

he won't get picked ahead of bresnan, its taking all of broad, finn, tremlett & rankin ahead of bunny that stinks

however i agree that sitting about and carrying drinks will do him no good.

What confuses me is why take 3 bang 'em bowlers? Broad, Finn and Tremlett are all the same bowlers really.

We might find out a bit on how he's going to go tonight.

4, they took rankin anarl. probably [and im not defendig them it was a bad decision] its that big whippy bowlers tend to break down more often than the likes of anderson

Quicks picked for Australian conditions, simple as. There is only WACA that offers any sort of movement. That said, it's all a bit one dimensional if Anderson gets injured.

I think if he did GO would get flown over from South Africa. He will have played cricket and he's the nearest we have to Anderson.

Onions very similar to Mcgrath after he slowed down. He was awful ;)

no need for 4 of them, 2 will be in the team and 2 spare, 1 would be enough.[DOUBLEPOST=1384476304][/DOUBLEPOST]

i agree and that is the stupid thing, 17 men taken and if anderson gets injured we still need to call up another, shouldnt be allowed IMO.

a 17 man squad should be more than enough to put 11 players out 5 times.

Worrying that Tremlett, Finn and Rankin are looking devoid of form.

It is worrying. I can understand selecting tall bowlers for Aus if they are on form. Tremlett looks short on pace and aggression than he was and I think it was a poor choice to take him let along play him in the first test.
