is KATZ worth the hype

p.S. ya DA sells out of date crabsticks at the fish quay

Was in Katz last month.

I enjoyed it. Get the pastrami sandwich. You won't regret it. Also ask for table service rather than wing it at the counter. The ordering process can be stressful if you don't know what you're doing

Decent value compared to the rest of Manhattan

Food is horrendously expensive in Manhattan.

Good value at Chinatown. The small places are best.

This is tiny but the quality and value are excellent. Used it in January

Wo Hop, New York City - Downtown Manhattan (Downtown) - Restaurant Reviews, Phone Number & Photos - TripAdvisor

Echoing the sentiments about how pricey it has become. Was there in May for the first time in a good bit and found that it was quite expensive compared to years gone by.

However, it is worth every penny.

If you like steak, then Keens is very, very good. Not cheap, but very good. Bang central too.
Keens Steakhouse . . . Since 1885

Not sure on your budget but the long-standing Grammercy Tavern is very good too. Went there way back in 1998 and returned last year - still as good as ever. It is a "no tip" restaurant, so the tip is factored into the prices. A really lovely spot albeit pricey.

Gramercy Tavern

You would need to book for both of these - maybe too late to get into GT if you are there next week.

Wine prices are certainly quite hefty in the US and then the tips really mount up. Often the suggested tip is something like 20%+.

You'll have a great time.

Check some of the other threads, people including myself have hoyed up plenty of links.

Union Square Cafe does one of the best burgers you'll ever eat.
