Gotta be a massive amount of discontent in that squad right now.

Neuer was in international retirement for a while and Baumann was chosen as the No.1 all the way through the qualifiers, only for Neuer to come out of retirement at 40 knowing they'd made the WC and becoming No.1 again overnight.

Don't get me wrong, he's a legend of the game, but he's more mistake ridden now than he's ever been and he hasn't put in any of the graft to get them there.

I think it could be a recipe for disaster for them.

How many of the Curaçao, Haiti and Cape Verde squads were up for the hard graft at the start of their campaigns? It’s not reet imho.*

*last summers SAFC transfer window scenario was more along the lines of the big dogs jumping into the team for FAC or FLC Finals after the kids and back ups have gotten them there.

I know that but there is a difference between choosing your allegiance at the last minute, but then committing to them for the rest of your playing career, compared to Neuer announcing his retirement and then coming back out for the glory when all the hard work has been done.

Some might say he's coming to help his country out in its time of need and I understand that, but surely he realised the GK situation wasn't good in the qualifiers, so why not come out of retirement to help them get there?

Did pretty well in CL
He was asked to come out of retirement by some very very knowledgeable football people who probably have a far different and better informed opinion than punters on SM fan sites

Just realised Baumann is 36, Ter Stegen is 34 and made 2 apps all season and Neuer is 40.

Their young keepers coming through must be nowhere near the standard if they can't make the squad.
They've got decent young keepers.

Seimen, Atubolu, Urbig, backhaus.

Only Spain can probably rival them for keepers.

Jonas Urbig is 22 and current understudy to Neuer at Bayern. Made 20 appearances last season including 3 in Europe, keeping 7 clean sheets. As soon as Neuer retires fully from football I expect he moves straight into Bayern #1 and Germany #1

I find it a bit of a piss take when players come out of international retirement just before a World Cup. Luis Suarez did it but Bielsa didn't pick him.

Yes. Let’s be honest, he wouldn’t have travelled if he thought he’d sit on the bench.
Martinez hasn't got the guts to drop him, that's why he got the job. The RoI game was a good example that Ronaldo has to start and has to be the main man. Ireland knew it and just stopped anything going to him. They actually played better when he was sent off.
