Sunderland owner Ellis Short close to agreeing takeover deal with mystery German consortium
The Black Cats owner is on the verge of selling Championship club in a £100m deal

SUNDERLAND owner Ellis Short is close to agreeing a takeover deal with a mystery German group.

London-based American Short wants to hand over the relegated club and could pull off his exit in the next couple of weeks.

Short has been seeking buyers for around a year and that process speeded up after the Black Cats dropped out of the Premier League.

The cost of the club is over £100 million and Short wants the money up front if possible.

However Short may settle for selling a chunk and having a bonus if Sunderland get back to the Premier League.

The club face a massive summer as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

They need a new manager after David Moyes quit after a disastrous campaign on Wearside.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is the favourite to take over in the dug-out.

However, the Scot is wary about making the move to the Stadium of Light.

He wants reassurances over the transfer budget available to him to transform Sunderland’s squad.

McInnes is still interested in speaking the Black Cats, so he can make a more informed decision about the vacancy.

The 45-year-old coach was linked with a move to England a few years ago, when he was in the mix for the West Brom job, while in charge at St Johnstone.
