Its a strange situation for me - we have him on loan with an option to buy, but someone else comes in for him during the loan - makes both the loan and option weak. This is something that should (and for all we know is) tied up tightly in the legal aspects of the existing deal.

Could even be the scousers deciding they may well want him in the summer and just letting him know not to accept our option now.

£4m to forgo 15 games of availability of a player who has probably told us he won’t sign in the summer isn’t terrible - particularly given our relatively comfortable position. I’d rather we didn’t have to adjust of course. Tend to view any big changes in January as disruptive and would prefer us to do all of our business in the summer if at all possible. However as compensation for an impact goes, that’s not too bad.

Probably only get out loan fee back. Its not a huge win like especially when we will replace with an inferior player.
 
What are the club - realistically supposed to do, Keep him and have an unhappy player? Club was in a no win situation once his head was turned. The meltdown has been ridiculous

He will have already said, he wasn't signing for us.


RB - Mukiele better
CB - Alderete better
DM - Xhaka better
CM - Sadiki better

Realistically doesn't play much, and he won't be happy being a bit part player at our club.

If you discount the players and agents feelings about this yes i think you are right they would get more than 20 million for him despite only being able to force himself into the Sunderland team coz of injuries/AFCON...Its business and its always about the money!
