Geertruida

I just cant see us paying the wages etc for someone that doesnt come in as a guaranteed started if we signed him permanently. No matter his usefulness/versatility

If it’s true we want only 5 to 6 quality additions in the summer we will have to be paying high wages for quite a few players who aren’t guaranteed starters. That’s the only way you kick on from where we are.

If I was the player I’d be looking elsewhere. Clearly RLB doesn’t rate him and he can’t afford another wasted season .

That’s premier for you, you have players on benches on 80k a week how it’s now. You have to pay for quality he is quality and give a run could easily stake a claim to be a starter.

Im surprised he hasn’t had more starts to be honest as he looks quality. Had his best game against the mags the other week at right back and then disappeared to the bench.
Sums up the challenge the recruitment team have got this summer. Ideally we need a handful of players of Geertruida’s quality who are happy to come and not be guaranteed starters to add quality depth to the squad.

We probably need a left back to rival Reinildo, a centre back to challenge Ballard / Alderete.
A midfield player to compete with Xhaka, a striker as competition for Brobbey and a right winger to start.

It is, but i think its more likely to sign player for the starting 11 and the person they replace becomes the squad player. Signing squad players was the issue we had so after when in the premier previously, and we never really improved

This. You sign a guaranteed starter on £60-80k a week and leave Hume as his back up.

There might come a point where the whole bench is on £80k a week, but right now, I wouldn't be spending it on a rotation RB personally. We need to put the resources where they can have the most meaningful impact.

I’d be shocked if a fair few in our squad with new contracts weren’t getting very close to being on 80k a week. It’s almost a standard wage now in the premier league, it’s madness.
