RIP Lord
That F...ing kit washer!?! You mean the former Sunderland player, team mate and good friend of my dad, who travelled over 100 miles just so he could be there to pay his respects and say goodbye to his friend! I wouldn't give a shit if he turned up in shorts and sandles. He came because he wanted to pay respects to my dad and me and my brother. F...ing kit washer, he played for our club, then he became the kit man after he retired because he still wanted to be involved in the club he loves! Show some respect for the man! I'd crawl through broken glass just to be able to be the kit man, John put that kit on and walked out on the Roker grass and represent our club.
I remember reading an interview with Siddall when I was young, and he mentioned that he could never save any of Rowell's penalties when they practiced.
My dad would ask Barry to stay after training to help him practice taking penalties. Dad told me he would take about 25 pens, he take the first 5 without telling Barry where he was putting them, then he'd tell him which side he will put the next 5, without saying if it was top of bottom then 5 on the opposit side, then he'd tell him exactly which side and hight hw would put them. Barry said to me, "even when your dad told me the exact position he was going to put the penalties, It was so accurate I still couldn't stop them.

How fabulous, your Dad was so talented we were privileged to have witnessed him play. Sending much love and I hope you and all his family and friends are managing to take some small comfort in your grief from the esteem he was held in by the wider SAFC community. x

I used to stand behind the goal in the Fulwell End. Whenever he took a penalty at that end I used to try and guess which corner he would put it in - I never guessed correctly!

You should be promoted straight to striker if you ask me.

Your dad was my hero as a kid. I guess we both had the same hero. Im glad he knew how loved he was by Sunderland fans. Even younger fans who never saw him play knew how great he was. A true legend.
