Gary Neville

As the old saying goes, "Actions speak louder than words". He could have stuck to the principles he claims to have, rejected the £1.6m offered to him and said all of that in this country. It's not like he doesn't have the platform as he's never off TV.

What we witnessed yesterday was the biggest example of virtue signalling we have ever seen. The fact that he made that speech whilst being paid all that money from a venue where 1000s of workers lost their lives was quite frankly sickening.
Agree on this.
He could of raised these issues from the comfort of his home on a podcast or whatever, he’s criticising a country and their values, rights etc while taking top dollar in the process, refusing the money and then explaining why, that’s making a stand
Yes he’s right, but the average punter knows and could of said what he did
Beckhams worse than him used queens funeral to promote himself ‘oh look at me I Cued like the rest, what a hero, please, promoting the World Cup for a nice 10
Million when he was literally sat in the stand all the time, wonder what he’s put that 10 million towards the workers rights, no that’s right himself
As a football pundit he’s been brilliant over the years Neville should stick to that

Perhaps when he's making the points on the very platform which is paying him mega money, which could have gone to the workers in question who built the stadiums, it sort of tarnishes it a bit.
Are you seriously saying that if Neville had turned down the money, it would have gone to the immigrant workers???….😲

No I'm saying the Qataris should have paid a better wage to the workers building the stadiums, and paid for better, safer conditions, rather than treat them like shite, and hold back the good money to get people like Beckham to get mega millions to advertise the place as a great breakaway.

You are correct about the Qataris. But you aimed the original barb at Neville and suggested that the migrant workers could have been paid more if he had turned down the money.
If the Qataris had not paid Neville, they would not have given it to the migrant workers instead.

They were never gonna give it to the workers. My point is they should have. Neville (And Beckham) could have made a stand and spoke out by staying home and not accepting the money, and making a stronger case against them
What's funny? Over 6 thousand people died, and you think a yellow laughing face is appropriate

There’s a lot of hypocrisy here him included. I’d imagine many on here have voted for our own right wing government who want to opt out of the human rights act and want to limit workers rights while criticising Qatar. Sticking up for gay rights in Quatar while ranting on about ‘woke’ and trans people.

Just watched an interview with Ian Hislop. He said he was shocked that Neville didn't have an excuse for working for the state broadcaster.
He said he thinks that Neville just assumed that he wouldn't be asked about it - on HIGNFY.

Just because he jumped on the oil money train in the end doesn't mean he can't comment on shite at home.
He let himself down going out there but he's still spot on with affairs at home. Still a good lad but tainted.
Aren’t most people?
I work for an Oil Company. Am I a hypocrite if I think some of their working practices are harming the environment, whilst allowing them to pay my bills?

Yeah you are, but you are doing your job that doesn't entail speaking out at things like this, which Gary Neville has made his role to be chief spokesman, and people respected a lot of what he said before. Once you do that, you really have to keep up your own actions for debate when it comes across as 2 faced

Fair enough. I still think he makes many good points and that shouldn’t be ignored because he made this error.
