Yip, going. There's not much to demolish tbf. Always thought it was the actual buildings that were heritage sites, not the view. Ludicrous decision.
I think there were stands there before 2004, they've just rebuilt them.
That would be a massive shame. The Fort is a brilliant place to watch a test from.
The locals were selling ice pops and bottles of lager up there for pence on the last tour, over a thousand English up there during the boycott.

I've played a game of cricket inside a grade 1 listed castle and scheduled ancient monument (Portchester Castle). It's about 1500 years older than Galle fort! Don't think it has Unesco World Heritage status though.

The pavilion is at the other side of the ground already. A pretty poor country (and the cricket ground) was wrecked by a natural disaster. It's laughable that the UN are being dicks about summat that will draw in tourists and in turn help make the upkeep of the fort more self-sustainable.

I watched a test match there in 2015. Great place. To sit in the ‘posh’ stand cost me £3.50. Sri Lanka were playing India.
