No, it was for tax reasons, and (according to the brewerys) us Brits prefer a weaker lager.
Many strong lagers have a special brew tinge to them but drinking grolsh in Holland at over 6% is a thing I could get used too. Not in a getting pissed way but because it was lovely and not a tinge to it at all

Grolsch is 5% in the Netherlands. You sure it was Grolsch?
