Franklin gone


Interesting piece in the Cricketer on Franklin's departure which throws a light on our finances. We are operating on one of the counties smallest budgets but received £36000 compensation payment for supplying Potts, Lees and Carse to England and ECB also pay their Durham salaries whenever they're on England duty.It adds that Durham find it hard to justify paying inflated prices for overseas signings and prefer th trust in their own youth.
Adds that we're still targeting Kent's Ollie Robinson.

which is why the likes of Doneathy and mainly Bushnell keep getting dropped for our overseas failure.

Yeh, reminded me of North's justification for signing Maddinson- "he's a value for money signing" which confirms what I suspected that our overseas signings are low budget ones.
To be fair Maddinson contributed significantly to today's win but that'll be undone if we lose the points because of his oversized bat.

Value brand cricketers
 
I'm told Franklin replacement is an Aussie who played many years in the County structure. Has also coached at international level.
 
Whoever it is I just hope they don't lumber him with a daft title. Head coach is fine. No need to call them Lead High Performance Coach or whatever it was.
 
For some reason Shaun Tait popped into my head. He's played for Glamorgan and Essex (as well as that awful brief spell for us). One time bowling coach for Pakistan too.
