Franchise cricket again

Watching the South African t20 thing as there is little on. Some great players playing (Durban have Conway, Williamson, Buttler, Markram and Klaasen as their top 6) but it just feels so irrelevant to me. There is so much of it, with different permutations of players in different leagues

Has it eaten itself or am I just a grumpy git?

(I get the skill and entertainment of it before anyone starts)

It's better than no cricket, but fundamentally it's utter chod.

I wouldn’t start with the last sentence mate as I can tell you don’t want me too :D

So will just say there must be a market for it in terms of audience and tv rights.

Or else the players ,you mention would not be there receiving the salaries they are

Of course. You could of course extrapolate that to a lot of things.

I wonder how many people are currently watching this on Sky in the UK, can’t be many?

Must admit you just reminded me it’s on.

Just turned my telly over!

But seriously there must be enough fans wanting or enjoying it or it simply would not be happening.

From what I can see ground looks full as well?

Yes, thanks from me too for pointing out that this is on. Fill in a gap until Man U later.

Bit of sunshine or cloudy by the looks of it in Cape town.

This is one of the better comps I think, this and the big bash but time zone not great for the latter.

I like this one.

Most boards will have their own t20 league to help generate income so they can afford to have own players on annual contracts. An attempt to stop the best players being unavailable for their country, due to the playing in some random t20 comp elsewhere to make a living.

I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve seen something like the SA20 or IPL about to start and I’ll think “I’ll try and get into it”, only for me to be bored stiff after about 20 minutes before turning it off.

There’s far too much of it, but the Indian bell ends who finance it don’t seem to be able to grasp that less is more.

Teams regularly scoring 200+ has ruined it for me, bowlers just seem like they're there to make up the numbers and there's barely a contest anymore.

Not a fan. Havent watched any BBL, BPL, and won't be bothering with IPL.

Rinse and repeat fast food cricket.

I do. But I guess the point is that it feels a bit meaningless. Players constantly playing for different clubs, I can’t get excited by it as it’s just “entertainment”

Summary: I’m a grumpy git
Not really because I can see your point.

If there is too much on all the time of anything it dilutes the product.

I am a bit like that with football too much on the telly, when I was a 11 year old would not believe I would ever say that.

However my main point is in each country itself it’s still popular with fans and people go to watch it.

The IPL whether people like it or not is massive and extremely popular, now I know cricket in India a religion almost but they adore the IPL above other cricket.

Not saying it’s right because it probably not, but there has to be a acceptance that T20 very popular product

There's multiple tennis tournaments on every week for the vast majority of the year. Same for golf. The football season has expanded massively from when a lot of us started watching. Formula one. I think has more races on much more global basis. US sports, snooker, darts etc all the same.

There's just more sport everywhere.

Usually for reasons related to money and often because of the ability of sports to attract a live audience and therefore advertising spend on TV.

I wouldn't expend any energy pointing out the bits of it I don't like.

Can’t get away with it me. I like the blast and don’t mind the BBL as the teams represent a place and come out of county/shield cricket.

IPL and all that is crap.
