I'm not sure what difference the pitch being below ground level makes to the size of the concourses?

Because the concourse starts underneath the stands. But our whole lower tier is below ground level, the councourse starts from beneath the "U" blocks and outwards. If the pitch were at ground level, it would start from beneath the "L" blocks and outward.

We have loads of space though and could easily have built larger concourses anyway? Obviously barring the North Stand these days.

Possibly we could. And this approach reduces the footprint of the stadium and probably helped cut the cost considerably, I'm just saying it doesn't help, especially combined with the overhang from the other side.

I assume we have less overhang because of the sunken pitch? The concourses are inadequate, especially when crowds are high.
