Interesting bit of old news! It was a Burnley vSunderland game at the Turf in 1953 I think.

A small wall collapsed injuring many a fan.The police commended the Sunderland fans on their behaviour saying that they were the best they'd had down here in years. There was a record crowd at the time of 53000.

What's the story behind it?
Burnley V. Sunderland-January 1953- a wall collapse at the Bee Hole End stops the Cup-Tie match. About 20 injured, but referee W H E Evans (referee from Liverpool) checks the time to be added-because the "show must go on" At that time it was a post war record gate of 53,000. Burnley's Chief Constable wrote to the Sunderland Chief Constable to say that the Sunderland Supporters had been the best behaved crowd to come to Burnley for many years.

Interesting thanks for posting

Great photo.

What a time it must've been if you were employed in the hat trade.

Also very publicly spirited of the Chuckle Brothers getting mucked in with the St Johns Ambulance.
