Forthcoming gigs.

Insecure Men early Feb in Hackney.
Au Pairs early May in Camden.

NY resolution is to go to more gigs.
I may even deliberately go to my first tribute band locally. Rolling Clones, Total Blondie, Stipe, The Jamd, Absolute Bowie, Cureheads, Stanley Dee, U2 Tribe, Special Kinda Madness, Ohasis, Strange Doors etc. Problem is the tributes are only on Saturdays ffs.

Seen Stones, Blondie, Jam, U2, Oasis & Doors tribute bands before.

Most recent was Definitely Mightbe on the 23rd. Next is Doors Alive, funnily enough on 23rd of next month. Pretty enjoyable if you let go that it’s not them. Gets more enjoyable with more pints!

I think the real evidence of how Sunderland has changed hugely for the better is that of the 12 gigs I have tickets for, 6 of them are in Sunderland and this is well below the average over the last couple of years.

Looking back at my calendar for the same period in the pre-Fire Station days the only thing I can see in Sunderland was Withered Hand upstairs in the Isis.

There was just nowhere for the likes of Midlake and Ron Sexsmith to play.
Still a few midlake tickets left
Thought it would of sold out straight away

Doors Alive are very good, saw them at the City Hall a couple of years ago. As close to 'the real thing' as you could want, without 'Jim' getting his knob out.

I was at the Peacock last night for the annual xmas bash which Pat McMahon (Blue Diamond/Sun Devils) organises. Usually it's Blue Diamond doing all the old favourite 70s covers with various guests. Last night he was part of the 'house band' with George Lamb which exclusively played George's and Pat's own songs. As Pat has been playing a lot of those covers since we were in the 6th form and those songs were new, I could totally understand this and the band were top notch. Phil Caffrey opened, also superb, also stuck to his own songs, and Stan The Band headlined, never seen them before but they were very good at what they did, though it wasn't really my sort of thing. Again though, all original songs, (which a lot in the audience were singing along with) and all credit to the band for that. However, after 3 and a half hours I was yearning to hear a song I actually knew and was almost relieved when it was over and I could clamber into me car and stick a Sparks CD on!

Been off the drink for a few days which might not have helped and it was still a great night.

.
Aye, I’ve seen them before, although my friend reckons there’s a couple of different Jim’s.

Absolute Bowie are very good.

Haway then gig-goers, given that it's last day 2025 how about a Top 3 gigs attended of the year list? For me:

1. Fantastic Negrito - Pilgrim (Newcastle, August). Multiple Grammy winner, great songwriter and incredible performer, yet somehow lucky enough to see him play in a tiny little venue with probably less than 100 people. Won't forget that one in a hurry

2. KT Tunstall - Barrowlands Ballroom (Glasgow, January). A one off 'home-coming' concert to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut album 'Eye To The Telescope'. Brilliant performer, had a full band with her instead of her usual solo vibe, and threw in some special guest appearances from Eddie Reader and Justin from Del Amitri.

3. JD McPherson - The Fire Station (June). One of my favourite and most listened to artists of recent years, playing in my hometown 10 mins from my front door. Shame there wasn't a big turnout for him, but he put on a great show regardless.

1 Damn Truth at the Cluny. Followed this band for some time now. A great night and an excellent band
2 Michael Schenker. Playing Strangers in the Night was amazing (the really first albums bought)
3 Difficult choice. Probably The Temperance Movement. A great comeback from the band

I was at the Horsegirl gig at Mono. My favourite of the year as well.
