We’ve had nights where there’s something been on in a few venues here too.I hate saying it, but it makes a bit of a mockery of the 'Sunderland is a Music City' slogan doesn't it.

Disappointed waves couldn’t get funding in first year of music cityI hate saying it, but it makes a bit of a mockery of the 'Sunderland is a Music City' slogan doesn't it.
I'm at City Hall this Thursday to see Jalen Ngonda......the missus is a fanWe’ve had nights where there’s something been on in a few venues here too.
Whether we like it or not, Newcastle will still continue to get gigs on. I was at OCS (acoustic) at the Fire Station not to long ago, think the Kooks played Monument in the last 18 months.
Scott Lavene and Nev Clay at the Old Cinema Laundrette in Gilesgate next for me.
Its a great venue with a capacity of only 50 ish. If you live in Durham and haven't been, get yourself there sometime. I think a lot of people don't know it exists.
I have no affiliation to the laundrette other than appreciating its value as a local amenity by the way.
Didn’t realise they were still a thing. Saw them at Pop Recs in 2013PINS @ ThinkTank?
Still the same old wannabe dive bar, absolutely minging pints, but the band was good.

Not in the slightest. Sunderland's music scene has been a key part of Sunderland's recent renaissance. This is why it was awarded the recognition as a Music City (Manchester is the only other city in the UK to have this award, although Newcastle now and obviously going for it). Sunderland's indigenous I scene is tremendous with great bands springing up all the time. And the likes of Field Music/Lake Poets/The Furureheads all putting in time to encourage these young and talented people. Additionally, there is more music being performed in the city than probably ever before with more venues and more recording studios that ever before. I think you have missed the point, which is a shame.I hate saying it, but it makes a bit of a mockery of the 'Sunderland is a Music City' slogan doesn't it.

Be nice if you read my post. There are loads of great new bands coming through now. Biggest problem with Sunderland is the negativity and the desire to slag off those trying to change or improve the place.Loada waffle to name check the same three turns.
We just need more punters at gigs . We talk a good game . I was playing original stuff in town in the 90s to a handful . I go to see bands now in my 60s and it's average turn out . It's not negative ,it's just how it is . There is plenty bands , the quality isn't even in question . Field music can't make a living ,enough saidBe nice if you read my post.
