Forthcoming gigs.

Were you there for the Saturday too? One of the best days I've had for ages! Great weather, great beers in every venue and every band we went to see were on top form, except maybe Benefits who I couldn't make any sense of, music was overwhelmingly loud so he was just yelling incomprehensibly and I couldn't make out anything other than that he was clearly very angry.

3 Martha spin-offs on one bill, absolutely topper, can't have too much of those lovely people.

Our Saturday went:

No Teeth (Cumberland)
Me Lost Me (Cluny)
Get Wrong (Tyne)
Dilettante (Cluny)
Onsind (Cobalt)
Lake Poets (Cluny)
Benefits (Cluny)
Mouses (Little Buildings)
Ain't It Fun (Little Buildings)

Probable highlight of the day came at the end of the Lake Poets' set. It was good to see Marty with a proper band again and I was happy to see 3 of Lilliput in there who I used to love. However, I was a bit disappointed that he wasn't risking any new songs and when he started talking about being from Sunderland, and the lads, and how important this song was to a lot of Sunlun fans and I was thinking "f***ing hell, not Shipyards again, what a downer of a way to finish" when the band launched into an absolutely storming version of Ready To Go!
I couldn't do the Saturday of Marrapalooza as my son had his end of season football presentation. Definitely sounds like it was another great day.

Boundaries Festival (Sunderland) is back in November. Just £10 per day and £15 for both days. Not been to one of these yet but always looks great value.

Was at Seventeen Nineteen last night for the family show of Old Time Sailors. Not sure the difference between that & the main version like. Possibly just earlier & slightly shorter, as it kicked off at 7:30pm & lasted an hour.

Anyhow, very good fun. Half show, half gig. Lots of traditional folk songs played with bit of a sea shanty vibe. McAlpine’s Fusiliers, Leaving of Liverpool, Dirty Old Town, John Kanaka, Seven Drunken Nights, Rattling’ Bog type of stuff. Got a family ticket for 4 people for £50 which is excellent value. Might go back to see them in Blyth in September. Think that’s just the full show & is £25 a person.

I did wonder how they actually earn money like, cos there’s about 17/18 of them in the band, sound engineer, videographer etc. minimum 20 of them in the squad, so ticket sales & merch can’t stretch too far.

Couple of souvenir clips here. Don't know if you know Chris, he puts gigs on as Prancey Dog, mainly around Ouseburn but at Pop Recs and the Launderette too. Lovely man.

I recognise him but don't know him personally. Sure I was stood right near him down the front at The Grove for English Teacher.

I went to both days. Cracking little festival.

Gruff was magnificent on the Friday despite some issues with the sound system. I don't remember much about the Saturday past 6pm but I really enjoyed The Early Purple, Old Man, Zilch Patrol, Me Lost Me and Lake Poets (although I do prefer him without the full band tbh. Feels like his voice struggles to cut through).
