Footage from the 60s

Imagine travelling down for the match in those days ? , be the best part of 7 hours I reckon.
One of my thoughts too. Bloody awful drive even in the modern day
The atmosphere sounds so strange compared to say even 15 years later. Like a kick about in the park
Things must have changed sharpish through the 60s into the 70s for football

A different game in a different world. The beginning of the end of the old era presumably

Good watch that

mind they'd be more than two carriages of the equivalent of northern rail!
Was that Charlie Hurley goal disallowed? ...from a lovely Harry Hooper corner.. 2,48 minutes ... they never had many tall players but it might have been Lawther or McPheat.

Lovely to see Anderson and Hooper after all these years .... the Anderson Hurley McNab half back line was very good ... but to me Hooper was one of the most exciting player in the league .. Anderson's goal was typical of what he could do. McPheat's career was cut short in one of the many clashes with Leeds... a teenage sensation [very few of them in those days] highest ever scoring teenager ever at Sunderland with 23 goals before he turned 20 ... more than the likes of Maja Mayenda etc. [ ]

Different days in football Stan Anderson played for Sunderland ...then Newcastle and Middlesbrough as well as captaining them all!
It really is isn't it? But it's still fascinating to watch something from that far back candidly like that.
you try playing on that pitch
