Flat Caps

Both me Grandads wore them , god bless them.

Have one of them in the wardrobe which I could bear to see hoyed out. Old school gentle green check effort . It'll be getting worn when I reach a certain age in 30 odd years.

Look class on a certain generation. On others makes you look like a knob

When I was little in the 50s, me Dad would take me through to Newcastle either on the train or the express bus from Park Lane, to pick out a new cap for himself. He thought that there was a greater choice through there. We would also go to a seafood shop in the Haymarket (I think)for a plate of mussels or whelks and finish off at St James’ Hall for the wrestling. He worked in the shipyards all of his life and always wore a cap to work and had best ones when he went out dressed. We still have a couple of them in the family.
