Very exciting Test Match but I fear for us this summer if the batting isn't much improved, early days though

This.

The bowlers (Broad really) got the batsmen out of jail.

What surprised me were the number of tumbling wickets in this test. For quite a few years now, Lord's usually is a very good batting track which gets better as the game goes on (there've been some big recent third and fourth innings scores). I don't know whether conditions changed this time or whether both teams' batsmen were f***ing awful.

Hold my hands up. Well done Broad, some handy runs and then a stormer of a spell of bowling. Just hope he could do it more often.

It's been a class test, proper cricket.

Lets not get in a panic about the batting just yet. Early Summer tests matches in England always favour the ball. There were some poor shots in there along the way, but there was also some good bowling.

Saying that, Ive got everything crossed that Pietersen is fit (and we really need someone to partner Cook in the opening pair).

3 of the top 6 are massively inexperienced at Test level. Of those 3, only Root, to date, looks like he has a long future ahead in the side but the other 2 have shown glimpses of genuine ability and potential.

Forget about the batting problems, conditions were heavily in favour of the ball. Only a relatively poor 1st bowling performance meant we didn't win by an innings.

KP for Compton, Root opens.

This for me too. I just hope we try Root opening in the 2nd test while we've got a chance to see how he gets on.

I've been saying that since his debut. Root is an opener, Compton is not (or atleast doesn't for his county). Therefore, it makes sense. For now I'd put Compton at 4.

For Friday - Cook, Root, Trott, Compton, Bell, Bairstow, Prior, Bresnan, Broad, Swann, Anderson.

Got a feeling they will play ronchi or Latham as an extra batsman and play 3 seamers and Williamson

New Zealand have lost there only decent bowler and our (im a kiwi) batsmen havent got into any form yet... basically this will be a walkover to the most embaressing degree.
