Say we get Gnanduillet as our main CF, who we going to get in as cover if they know they're 2nd choice for our lone front man spot? I would hazard a guess they wouldn't even be as good as Wyke or Grigg. Even if we could convince someone better to come and play 2nd fiddle we couldn't afford to pay them, unless you want to split the wage for 1 quality CF between 2 average CF's?
As for Lb we brought in Declan John to cover Hume and he never got a look in. Gooch can play lwb if Hume is out which might open the door for Diamond to get a chance further up the pitch which can't be a bad thing. The u23's however have been playing without a Lb for about 2 seasons now so would be worth looking at released youngsters from Prem/Championship to see if we can pick up a lad in that position. Maybe we could get someone highly rated if they know they've a good chance of getting into the 1st team. If we're padding out the squad i would rather fill deficiencies in the u23's than pay lads in their late 20's to sit in the stands and hopefully by strengthening them their results will pick up (certainly can't get any worse). Some decent lads just been released from Boro; Mitchell Curry (cf), Layton Watts (cm) (Sunderland lad i believe), Stephen Wearne (am), Nick Hood (rb), Nathan Dale (cb). Would be worth giving these lads a trial at the very least imo.
 

I think what we need more than anything is 2 creative midfielders.
Under parkisons system with wing backs we are so predictable and easy to defend against.
When thats not working we need a different approach and Power and Dobson are the most uncreative midfielders I've ever seen,
I think they got less than 5 assists between this season pure shit
 
It will be a pretty routine signing to begin with (Alnwick or Wright). Any interesting signings will happen later. But I'm pleased he's talking about 7-8 signings. We have gaping holes in our squad, now.
