First cricket match I remember watching

Wonder how many of those coast league teams still exist?
My 1st ever game was a semi-final Saunders Cup South Shields v Seaham Harbour(C.S.Nayudu v Dick Fuller). Ground packed. 25 overs each side -all over in less than 3 hrs.
My mam used to do teas at DAwdon - 100 years ago - so I was up there watching from 5 or 6. I was 13 when I went to Headingley by myself, by coach, to see the West Indies 1966. I saw Sobers bat and he got 174 and seymour Nourse who hit 130? I watched Charlie Griffiths and Wes Hall bowl.

Mid 70s, me Dad shouted for me and me brother to stop trying to smash his greenhouse and come in and watch this madman bowling in the John Player League. It was Bob Willis....we were absolutely transfixed by him and the game. The start of a beautiful relationship with the best sport in the world....

There was something magical about me and me brother waking up in the middle of the night in the depths of winter to listen to TMS from Australia. First memory of that would be the 78/9 tour I guess when Randall batted for about 3 days to get 150 at Sydney.

I'm pretty sure back then TMS didn't get the radio feed for the entire days play, so it might be post lunch session starting about 2am. So we'd have the radio on low volume to avoid the risk of waking our Mam and Dad up.

It's strange how your mind keeps certain memories. That's a really fond childhood memory for me and yet, writing it down I've realised that at that time in late 78, early 79, my Gran who lived with us (as families frequently did back then) was on her last legs and needed my Mam and Auntie to care for her. She died early Feb 1979. Perhaps I've remembered it because it was a nice memory to have in what must have been a miserable few months really.

I remember one game when it was absolutely lashing down but the sun was still out as well and dickie bird let the game continue

Has to be early 70s
England v Australia one dayer, in 1977, at The Oval ?

Earliest memory is watching some of the 1975 Ashes series on tv but the ony thing I remember clearly was the "George Davis is Innocent " attack at Headingley.

First series I remember in more detail was the 76 one v West Indies. What a team they were.

Viv Richards getting 291 in the First Test …… I’d never heard of him until then !
The first Test I can recall watching was the England v Australia game from The Oval in 1968, when spectators help with the clearing up after a downpour on the last afternoon.

Underwood bowled us to victory and that famous photo of all the fielders crowded around the bat.

From the same year, BBC2 used to show a county playing ‘International Cavaliers’ in a 40 over a side game. A forerunner to the JPL

:lol::lol: How wrong was I

First Test Match I remember watching on TV was England v. Pakistan in 1971 and John Price taking ages to bowl an over trundling in on a run that was almost semi circular. That wouldn't be the first match but it was one that I can clearly recall.

First Test Match I went to was England v. Australia at Headingley in 1977. The one where Borecott, unfortunately, scored his 100th First Class 100.

First Durham Minor Counties game would have been against Shropshire (or maybe Staffordshire?) at GFCC circa 1971. I helped put the seats out. Dave Halfyard, ex First Class pro, played for Durham and kipped in his camper van in the car park.

First Durham game against a First Class County was the Gillette Cup game at Ropery Lane in 1972 against Surrey. Micky Stewart, father of Alec, scored a ton. Played the wag off school to be there.

Asif Masood opened the bowler for Pakistan that summer. He had an unorthodox bowling stride , starting looking side on then turning into his run up Played for Northumberland shortly afterwards and maybe County Club (Newcastle)

First pro game I saw was Yorkshire v Essex at Acklam Park 1990 Nasser Hussain was a kid and hit a quickfire 70 odd in the old Sunday League.

I used to go to Jesmond as well to watch Northumberland in the minor counties.

I was always at Wearmouth n Whitburn watching the DSL games...

It wouldn’t have been the first but the one that sticks in my mind was the minor counties v the aussies at Ashbrooke back in the 70s. The Aussies had some cracking birds in tow with them. I remember me dads eyes almost popping out his head

Bit random but I went to the oval to eng v Pak on 1996. Saw Boycott, he said hello.

Saeed Anwar scored an absolutely beautiful chance less century.
