Watched the 2016 remake of Whisky Galore on BBC2 yesterday. The original is a classic and didn’t expect to enjoy the new one but it was good especially Eddie Izard’s performance.

They bought the rights to do a remake and just took the piss.

There are whole lines lifted from the first film, like "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking" and "Our survival hinges on one thing: finding someone on board who not only can fly this plane, but didn't have the fish for dinner"

Albeit I had low expectations before watching it, I quite enjoyed the remake of “Dawn of the Dead”.

Although I still think the original is better.

Has there ever been one that surpassed the original?

Cape Fear always came close for me, but just re-watched original and De Niro version doesn't come close.

Telly Savalas with hair, Gregory Peck immense and Psychotic Robert Mitchum with his trousers up to his tits (maybe and influence for Lee Barry Cattermole aka the pub watch cantona)

I prefer the remake as the remake blurs the lines as neither man is a good man whereas its clear cut good and bad in the original
