Fermin Lopez (transfer rumour)

This doesn't strike me as even 1% likely given that he rejected Chelsea in the summer and signed a new contract in October 2024 taking him to 2029 with a 500m euro release clause.

Deco and Flick said it would take an "absolutely exceptional offer" to get him in the summer so unsure how we would stand a chance whatsoever.

How much did Chelsea offer out of interest?.

No idea but its immaterial, the player himself gave an interview after to say he isn't interested in leaving and intends to stay at Barca for "many years". If he doesn't want Chelsea I'd be surprised if we could attract him. Despite how good we are doing and how exciting our project is, if he wasn't interested in champions league football and living in London I doubt he'd take the risk on us.

Being linked with players of this calibre is a positive sign though of things to come, I just think this sort of signing is a couple of years away in the project

The one thing we could offer him that Chelsea probably couldn't is that he'd be the undisputed main man, like another Xhaka who plays every minute. Not saying it would be enough to tempt him, but it's not exactly the same offer.

At the end of the day I guess they might have to sit him down and say they need to accept an offer for financial reasons alone, buy back etc could come into it (not necessarily from us either) I put it in the possible but very highly improbable pile. On the other hand we might offer him a lot more than they can pay. 100k/week on a four or five year contract talks a lot for you…

Yeah people on here definitely think it’s happening and are in no way having a bit of a lighthearted laugh at what is clearly made up nonsense.

So glad you cleared it all up for us all.

Been plenty of genuine discussion about this in this thread with people taking it at face value - no need to be condescending. This is a discussion forum after all.
